Thank you very much. Just wanted to make sure before I ordered. I wasn't worried so much about power as I was about perhaps speed issues or "conflict" issues by having four USB "signals" going through one USB port on the laptop. It 'seems' like it would be an issue but i guess not.

Oh, and you say it has it's own power... does that mean I have to plug it into a wall outlet or it has batteries? I'm guessing that's what it means so I'd better figure that out too. LOL, not only are my USB ports an issue but so too are wall outlets.. they're all full!

USB 2 and 3 have way more capacity than is needed for any kind of input device, so adding several mice/keyboards/controllers will probably never be a problem, assuming that enough power is provided.

Its different with hard disks (at least if they are only using USB2 connections), those would better be connected to separate ports (or entirely separate busses ideally) so they don't crush each others transfer rates. USB3 would be fast enough, unless you're using external SSDs.

And yes it has a power connector.

Well it arrived.... and it definitely has problems. When I plug the mouse directly into one of the USB ports on the side of the laptop... it works great. When I plug it into the hub.... it doesn't. It.... drags... or hangs might be a better word. I'll move it left or right instead of gliding left or right it stands still and then "jumps" to where I'm at. It is a deal breaker if you're playing an RTS obviously.

I have tried plugging the hub into all three USB ports on the laptop and the same exact issue repeats. And this is a very new laptop and does in fact support USB 3.0. In fact.. .IIRC, all three of the USB ports on here are USB 3.0 (or maybe it was two not sure now).

And it can't be a "line of sight" thing messing with the mouse signal (it is a wireless mouse) because I've got the hub sitting right next to the where the USB ports are on the laptop with the mouse thing pointing directly out. In other words.. the mouse thing and the mouse are setting almost exactly the same spots no matter whether I plug it into the laptop or the hub yet when I plug it into the hub it screws up but when I plug it into the laptop it works.

What I haven't yet tried is plugging something else into the hub but man here's the thing... of the three possible things to plug into the hub... the mouse was the "least" important IMO. The controller I use would be useless if it too has problems and the headphones I can't even imagine what might happen. I'm sure I'll try it at some point but right now I wanted to log on and let any others know that yes... these hubs CAN have issues. And it makes sense... you're plugging several devices into ONE PORT. Several signals are going over ONE PORT. It makes sense there might be cross signals.

My only question is why in the hell in 2017 (when this laptop was manufactured) do they still make them with only 3 USB ports? Jeebus.

Could be worse. Like a Macbook with a single USB-C port. O.o

USB hubs really aren’t anything special, I’ve sometimes up to 10-11 devices connected at once through 2 six port hubs and never had any problems.

So… that really shouldn’t happen, its either not properly connected (sure the power is plugged in properly, it lights up when switched on?) or it was delivered broken. These USB hubs (and their power adapters) often aren’t the highest quality, maybe just bad luck.

Or the power supply is interfering with the wireless signal, I had a microsoft mouse some years ago that would only work when the (huge) wireless thing was like 30cm away from it. :P

That looks like a very good USB port. Your laptop os may be having issues with the new device. After plugging in the mouse into the USB port hub, try rebooting.

Also, sometimes, but very rarely, a device will freak out with a hub. Try your other devices with the hub. Your fan probably draws the most power, so that would be a top choice. Also, plugging it in May help rule out bad power for the hub (if it's under 5v, it can cause issues). See if your fan run faster in the hub or the laptop or runs the same.
