BKGaming: People worried and complaining about an American President... when they are not even American? Trump is right about one thing... let America worry about America... everyone else worry about your own countries issues.
Yes, because your government is renowned for minding its own business. I'm sure this won't affect the rest of us in any way whatsoever.

Thing is, American elections DO impact other countries. When Dubya was elected and decided to respond to 9/11 by invading Afghanistan and then Iraq, that had a big impact on the countries on the other side of the pond. In fact, Dubya's decisions had a much more profound long-term impact on our side of the pond than it did on the US itself. Now Trump is spouting his opinions about stuff from NATO to Russia to Taiwan and China despite having very little actual knowledge of it that wasn't taken from Cable News. You still wanna claim people from other countries have nothing to do with this?

It's almost as if America was some incredibly influential global power...

Like J.K. Rowling said after FoxNews told her to shut up and worry about her own country, "When someone like him gets nuclear weapons it becomes everybody's business."

Not disagreeing that USA sometimes sticks it's nose where it doesn't belong. However, this will happen regardless of who is President. People act like the President of the USA is a King or something... the Presidents power is actually rather limited. I say again people should be worried about Congress as much, if not more so.

Also if you actually listened to Trump's speech, he has been pretty consistent in making it clear he want's to put America first and keeping America out of other countries affairs. He made this quite clear. There was a time in America's history when we actually did this.

Both candidates were equally bad choices, but there are some policies of Trumps I can agree on. This doom and gloom is crazy... until we actually see what he does.

Mad respect for J.K. Rowling... been a fan since I was a small child. But celebrities would do well to entertain and not try to influence political agenda's. Nobody want's someone else's view pushed on to them.

Nearly 50% of American voters voted for Trump, that is a large slice of America that put these people in the position they are in today.

Dude, this isn't how politics work when we're talking about a global power like the US. It doesn't have to be about "sticking your nose" anywhere. USA is influential in economy, politics, culture... pretty much everything, that whatever happens to it and whatever it does or doesn't do has direct and/or indirect repercussions globally. You can't switch that off.

tinyE: Before I get as far away from this thread as possible :P, I should mention that I live in the middle of nowhere and even here you can see the rumblings of protest.

Whenever a new administration takes over there is always some praise, some jeering, and a lot of the crap Breja mentioned, but I honestly don't remember an inauguration day being this turbulent.

There are Anti-Inaugurations going on coast to coast, countless sit-ins, demonstrations, and they are even taking to the streets (peacefully) a short step south of where I live.

A lot of hype? Who knows. I just wanted to mention it before I get out of here and try not to think about it for the rest of the day.....errrrr four years. :P

I'll be around if anyone wants to talk NFL Playoffs or gaming.

So, what do you think about a Green Bay/Pittsburgh Super Bowl?

I think NE will mop Pitt but that Green Bay/Atlanta game is going to be one for the ages.

I'm going to need a seat belt for that one!

I was more responding to plagren, even though I grouped you all together. Was easier that responding to you all. I should have made that more clear, my apologies. This however I don't disagree with.

A lot of that influence, however, comes from the US government trying insert themselves in global/ country specific affairs. We do this a lot. This doesn't mean that by being more isolationist (which I believe we will be under Trump) won't have any influence or that by itself won't have an influence. This is true regardless of who the President is, or what there exact policies are... and I'm not sure who could say Hillary would have been any better in this regard.

My point is not so much that America doesn't have an impact on other countries... rather this is much bigger than any one person. There is a lot of checks and balances to our political system. People thinking things like "all my god Trump will destroy the world" or "Trump is Hitler" is asinine.

As far as what Trump says, I agree he can sometimes spout things bluntly when they could use more tact... however, a lot of people agree with him or in part. Him having "very little actual knowledge" of those issues is simply your opinion (which is probably formed by the biased media that always like to share their views).

Presidents learn on the job... and so will Trump.

I don't really consider myself a Democrat or Republican, I fall firmly somewhere in the middle but the left and the MSM have been an absolute disgrace this election. People to much focused on what MSM says with zero evidence based on unidentified sources in turn based on he said she said, making it out to be as if it was an absolute fact with a glaring biased agenda that they didn't even try to hide.

There is a balance of power for a reason... You think Trump is a threat? Nope real threat is the same people who have been in Congress and hold the real power in America. As it has always been.
Did you know that MSM is an organic source of sulphur and not in fact a news source? No? Now MSN......
You all know how "Mind Control" really works?

see, first they bend you over, then they pull down your pants and make a fist.
then they insert that fist up your rectum and grab ahold of your spine.

and when they push the button at the base of your skull (the pituitary gland) it causes you to open your mouth and they just say whatever they want others to hear, but they all see your lips move.

Mind Control is used on Dummies.

no man in his right mind believes in mind control, cause it makes your rectum hurt, and that is just "not right".
Is this another thread for left wingers to be assholes? Haven't we had enough posts of their bullshit? I think so.

People said that about Bush II...didn't work out that well.
And checks and balances might restrain Trump in domestic politics, but given how enthusiastic much of the US political elite has been in regards to foreign wars over the last 25 years the same might not be true for foreign policy. It's not even clear to me anyway the system still works as intended (e.g. iirc Obama didn't even seek congressional authorization for the Libyan intervention, same with the bombing campaign against IS).

You're right that congress has power too, which used to be checked by the president until today. But most of congress' influence is domestic and while we feel kind of bad for you when Ryan and his pals dismantle the social safety net in order to give the richest 1% a big tax cut, it doesn't really affect the rest of the world directly. A lot of the foreign stuff is handled by the executive branch though, now in the hands of someone who probably'd have trouble telling the difference between Chile and Peru.

Trump not knowing that Russia invaded Crimea or being unaware of what the First Strike principle in nuclear policy means isn't an opinion. It's a fact. People asked. He didn't know. It's that simple. People learn on the job, if they're intellectually curious and are willing to learn. Trump couldn't even be bothered to study for his debate performances.

It's popular to say that both candidates were equally bad. They used to say the same thing in 2000. I'm pretty sure quite a few people wished the supreme court had broken the tie in Gore's favor in retrospect.

Also, foreign policy isn't just about how much to be involved with other countries' business, but also about how much to stop being involved in other countries' business. In the latter's case, walking out of international treaties or alliances, potentially leaving vacuums for others to fill.
