He was never actually impeached, but Republicans certainly tried their damndest. In the end, it was more about them seeing an opportunity to possibly get rid of him than actually caring that much about the root cause.

Yeah, I was just reading the facts on Wikipedia, but I wasn't sure whether being impeached was the first step to be removed or the actual act of removal (and therefore whether he had actually been impeached or not).

That certainly makes sense, one rule for your friends, another for your enemies.

Listened to the speech. Same typical boilerplate political rhetoric one would usually expect to hear. Stayed pretty much on message and got a few jabs in too, because of course he did.

Oh well. Hoping he does a good job while in office. It will be interesting.

Right or wrong, legal or illegal, Trump has just been "crowned".
I just find it sad that so many people are so desperate for change that they'll pin all their hopes and dreams on such a person.

I don't hold much hope that the inequality between the extremely rich and the extremely poor is going to narrow during his presidency, neither do I think that world affairs are going to improve.
However, I much prefer to judge actions rather than just words, so I'll reserve my judgement on Trump being a good president until he's actually done something.
As a person, I find his actions towards pretty much anybody that isn't a rich, white elistist man to be unconscionable. And the lies and prevarications... I don't like him, but then you don't have to like someone to be able to co-exist with them or their supporters.
More importantly, I don't trust him to do what's right for the world/ country if it goes against his own self-interest. Although I could say that of most politicians, so he's not an outlier.

BUT! I could be completely and utterly wrong, (so wrong I'd be next to the word in the dictionary), so I'll shut up now. :P

Edit: I'd rather spend my time playing games or reading instead of angsting over a politician so I'm going to do that. Let's go kill some zombies!

I'm not sure if Trump's Twitter antics aren't part of a deliberate strategy, he's certainly been very adept at using social media etc. for his campaign. Hard to know what's real and what just for show.
His ignorance could however prove pretty dangerous given some of the advisers he has.

I respect him as much as any person should respect this absolute cretin who walked in on the ladies changing in the Miss Universe pageant to oogle them and make uncomfortable remarks while he's 40+ and married with children. Frankly, I'm surprised he managed to sire children.

I respect him as much as anyone should respect someone who manages to bankrupt an entire Casino resort in the 1990s to the tune of nearly a billion dollars. Somehow.

I respect him as much as someone should for calling the system that got him elected broken when the previous election had the president win though both the electoral vote and the popular vote, when his win was a complete and utter farce of a fluke due to a massive flaw of a system that honestly should have been retired posthaste when better systems were invented and utterly failed to account for the manifest destiny and growth of the empire/Republic.

I respect him as much as someone should respect someone who whines of clean wind power because there happens to be a turbine near his golf course even though he allegedly has enough money to just sell that course and buy off some schlepper's land in a better location. Even though I think his financial empire is largely a paper tiger.

I respect him as much as someone should when he claims to "drain the swamp", and then his cabinet picks are more along the lines of bogs, loos, and more of the very same swamp he claimed to be draining.

If I'm ever asked to write a history book, I'll leave a blank spot when it comes to him and when asked or pressed, I'll just say that the USA chose soft anarchy for four years. It'd be better than having to explain that the people of the USA "chose" him because that would just bring up several questions and plotholes.

And I respect you as much as anyone should respect some whiny brat still complaining two months after the election is over. The election is over. Trump won. And unfortunately it seems we have a culture of spoil sports who cannot accept the results of a fair election.

And don't get me wrong, I don't like Trump but I didn't like Hillary whose campaign seemed to be solely about "women should vote for me because I'm a woman and we'll make history". "Millennials should vote for me because I'm on their side with LBGTQ rights". "Blacks and Latinos should vote for me because all whites are deplorable". What she failed to do was explain at all what she would actually do as President except be historic and be on the "side of the minority"

We had two bad candidates and got stuck with one. But with the way liberals are acting like "entitled" fools, we are probably going to be stuck with Republicans for quite awhile...

Nothing of historic value, the US president got elected through the US political system and he's in place for at least 4 years. As I'm reading a book on the first half of the 20th century, the "problems" of nowadays are peanuts compared to the multiple events of that era.

I remember all the fuss and hype when Obama got elected for the first time and how it was said to be an "historical event" at that time but 8 years later, I fail to see the historical value of his legacy compared to Clinton and Bush (I'm too young to have a judgment on Reagan).

So unless it all goes unexpectedly to hell in the following hours and the world needs Jack Bauer, I'll continue my playthrough of Dark Souls 3 :o)
