GOG.com: ...
Honestly I kind of expected the Q2 enhanced edition to end up on Steam with Denuvo only to be released on Gog years later. It's a nice surprise to see it release here DRM-free.

gogomox: Being grateful for every effort to remaster old games in this soulless gaming era and having played Quake II RTX recently I cannot feel the enhancement. It looks like a downgrade for me. But anyhow thank you.
Maybe I should not compare Enhanced with RTX.
Non-RT vs. RT is just not going to be fair, graphically w/ the lighting and all. RT and/or PT just is gonna crush everything, provided you have the hardware.

Regardless, for those without RT and/or everyone on the "graphics isn't everything train" - this new Enhanced Quake 2 is incredible. Improved AI for enemies, accessibility w/ sub-titles for cinematic, weapon wheels, item inventory wheels, a compass you can signal to push you in the "right direction" (especially helpful for those lost in the labryrinths and for noobs), dynamic lighting, new graphics bells & whistles, new episode from MachineGames for free (Call of the Machine), Quake 2: 64 version included here, all of the Q2 base-game content and the 2 expansions, fixed the banging Q2 soundtrack, and more-more-more - yeah, this is incredible. Content-wise, this Enhanced version absolutely slaps.

In an era where you have 2K and Rockstar charging PS4 and Nintendo Switch owners $50 or so for a "conversion" and likely-to-be a very close to straight port of Red Dead Redemption 1: Complete Edition - in which, you could just instead grab the XBox version for $30 and use Xbox Series S to boost it to 1440p or the X Box Series X to 4K - yeah, this Quake 2 Enhanced Edition is awesome. Shows who Rockstar probably should've contacted to do their RDR1 "conversion" and also even the GTA Trilogy: "Definitive" Edition stuff too.

As for Quake 1 Enhanced - that rules too. And it's also a blast in IronWail Source Port too, which supports all of the Quake 1 Enhanced content too.

I'll jump for so much joy, if Yamagi Q2 Source Port - or any other awesome Q2 Source Port, for that matter - eventually supports Quake 2 Enhanced's content of Quake 2: 64 Edition and other features in here.

EDIT - I should note I'm playing this one on Steam, since I've owned all of that there for years. And you can use the "steam_appid.txt" trick and stick that in the Rerelease folder w/ the right app ID to make these Quake 1 and 2 Enhanced games work offline & without Steam. So glad to see GOG gamers get this Day 1 of this Remaster release for Q2, too.

This. Remaster. Slaps.

Syphon72: I see it now

Edit: I'm not super fan of DOOM but I love Quake for some reason.

Katzapult: It still doesn't seem to pop up for everyone.
EDIT: You can mod DOOM until it looks and plays like Quake. ;)
How???
Come on, don't keep us hanging! :)

Me too, own all of that stuff for decades. Looking forward to next level: Quake II Enhanced RTX
Arghh!!! Where is my weapon recoil?

The game in "Difficult" level does feel to me easier than the original because of this and also in the sense that the enemies feel less like "bullet sponges" than before, Is it like they have fewer health or so?

Maybe Placebo? Maybe the experience in a game replayed for years?

The good thing is that this time the proper d3d11 renderer is official and in my rig it makes the game run much better than the Quake I enhanced.

As a final note I have seen people complaining on Steam about how the game looks with the filtered textures.

Well It looks perfectly accurate to how the game looked in the past with a Voodoo GPU. I suspect people is spoiled hardly with source ports or texture mods of some kind.

Anyways maybe some of them are referering to wider texture config like Trilinear etc...

The filtering can be turned off, via the option "texture smoothing", can't it?!

Yes, it makes the game pixelated.

Anyways the first time I played Quake 2 the game looked exactly like it looks with the "texture smoothing" on.
I had that experience too, it feels too easy. Maybe change to Nightmare.

What I've noticed is that the colors are overdone, too intrusive and a bit cartoonish.

Just found a hint at steam: Disable Color Lightmaps. Looks a bit more like Quake now.

But nothing compared to RTX.

Just playing the Lost Train Station. It looks so cheap, the weapon like glued on the screen.
I cannot help but this version is visually 'Quake II Degraded'.
It does not feel like Quake.

Well pesonally I like a lot the color, light and options available. The qol features, the polishing and the new content.

With no graphic option enabled the game visually is basically a copy paste of the good old Quake 2 for those who want the purist way.

Overall I consider this enhanced edition a very good version.

My only gripe is the weapon recoil. It is so noticeable that I suspect it could be a bug or a overlook. If they have removed it to make the game more straighforward or comfortable to play for new users they have chosen the wrong road.
After 1 hour of Lost Train Station I've got motion sickness. Had to stop. With RTX I've never experienced this.
Thank you
Thanks Bethesda & GOG and Machine Games and of course id Software.

Same here, but this from the beginning of game

This is the first game that cause this to me... (and only with this remastered version)

Yes, that's Quake II. That was the era of "Ooh, we can do colored lighting! COLORED LIGHTING EVERYWHERE!!!!!"

That happens to me a lot with some games;

Might it help, if it's possible, to alter your FOV setting?

Just a thought.
