It's been 20 years since we crash-landed on a planet full of ugly aliens, snazzy guns, and conveniently places power-ups. Today we're going back for a nostalgic trip FREE of charge!

Together with Epic Games, we are celebrating this anniversary with a 48h giveaway of Unreal Gold, the hallmark FPS that expanded the shooter genre with open areas, sweet weapon upgrades and, well, unreal lighting effects.

Grab it for FREE through our front page banner until May 24, 5pm UTC. If you already own the game, you will receive a code for a friend (needs to be redeemed before June 7th, 10pm UTC).

Then make sure to grab the rest of the Unreal series at 80% off until May 29, 5pm UTC.

Not big on FPS, so a chance to try the legendary Unreal title at no cost sounds perfect. Cheers, may it be celebrated by a few more generations in another 20yrs.

What a nostalgia trip for me...

Here in the UK it was still the height of BritPop and me and 3 school mates were huddled round the drummers parents house in the spare room recording our EP on an old Pentium 60 and a very early copy of Cubase VST.
Came time for a break so me and the drummer both being nerds saved and closed Cubase and he showed me this new game he had bought

The intro started up on the main menu of a 3d, lighted castle scene panning around fast and smooth - to which I said in disbelief "That is unreal"

He just chuckled then told me what it was called.

There are just a handful of moments in all my years of gaming that stand out (Resident Evil 1 end of first hall and first zombie is one of them), this moment seeing Unreal 1 was another for sure.

Thanks Epic & GOG, I had unreal gold for sometime in my wishlist so this was a nice surprise.

And since we are here I picked the tournaments games :D
I had a lot of (nice and fun) memories playing duels in unreal tournament 99, now it's time to try the 2004!

Because it's always gotta be "Us vs. Them" I was a Half Life guy...

... and never freaking played Unreal. Thanks GoG for letting me change that in the near future!

Much much better than Half Life in every aspect but for some reason, "critics" praised HL more than Unreal. For me this shooter has the greatest atmosphere of every game that i have played and the end was bitter and unforgettable. My first playthrough was in 2002 and i will never forget it. It was also my first experience with an fps.

If you already own Unreal Gold here, clicking the "Get it!" button on the front page banner will send a promo code to your e-mail address, which you can give to whomever you want...before that deadline on the 7th of June.
I'm pretty sure if you DIDN"T already have a GOG copy, though, it will just get added to your account automatically instead. At least, that's how they generally do it. (I already own it here, so I have to assume.)
