Stuff: ...
With external storage being very affordable I would suggest you get a good quality external for your actual backups. That's just my way of backing up my games for some time and no dis on using CD/DVD's if that is your preference. I store game covers with my game files just to have game info and an image of the front covers I spent so much time looking at back in the day.
Oh, I've got LOTS of storage space for backing up my stuff, but the effort of backing up all my Steam and GoG games has quickly filled it up, so I started trying to free up space by backing up some of the larger ones I'm most likely to use again to DVD, Bluray, or even sometimes their own USB flash drive. When I bought the Dishonored, Wolfenstein, and The Surge games they would have filled up my storage drives on their own!
I'm also somewhat paranoid about keeping ALL my games on one drive. If they worst would come to pass and GoG shuts down and my storage drive breaks down I'd lose it ALL! I want to at least back up my smaller favourites to CD as an additional backup.
