On to stretch goals!

Pardinuz: Dude, did you mean to post in the drunk thread?

Shadowcat: I'm optimistic that they'll reach the base target, but it's not at all clear that they'll exceed it significantly.

This should have been one of those campaigns where they were fully-funded within hours!

Pardinuz: I agree. I expected it to have reached the base goal within the first 24 hours. I'm kinda puzzled as to why it didn't.

I'm sure they'll reach the base target but it will break my heart if they can't reach the final stretch goal. :(
There are a lot of first-rate first-person RPGs available now, and Underworld dates back from the days of Wolfenstein 3d. That's a long stretch for nostalgia money. You also have to consider Kickstarter has had some very high profile computer game failures this year. I'm sad Underworld didn't hit their goal faster, but not surprised. Underworld is one of my favorite classics, so I'm glad they'll be moving forward.
Underworld may have come out before Wolf 3D, but surely there must be people out there who still remember System Shock or Thief which are in many ways part of the same lineage, same design philosophy.
I was trying to do a playthrough of the Ultimas (for the first time, sadly), but got stuck at the last dungeon on Ultima 4 (awful dungeon). When does Underworld take place on the timeline?

Edit: For grammar.

I think Underworld 1 is between 6 and 7, and Underworld 2 is between 7 part 1 and 2.

Thief is a living series and System Shock had an enormously popular sequel many years later. Underworld's recognizability pales in comparison. The Ultima brand might still carry some weight, but the Kickstarter isn't for an Ultima game.

Underworld is hardly an obscure series. It's just relatively less exposed than the biggest-name games. I haven't been following this project, so I don't know how successful they were at raising awareness before starting their drive. 11,000 backers and $620,000 isn't bad at all. Enough other people remembered the lineage to fund the game, even if it wasn't a day one success.
I'm really happy that the game got funded!! =)

Now on to the Underswamp!

I should add, Underworld 1 is a self-contained story. I'm not even sure it was originally designed as an Ultima tie-in. Underworld 2 doesn't change the Ultima 7 storyline, but it has a lot more story hooks from the main series.
Thanks for the help everyone! Once I get the resolve to slog my way through the Abyss in U4, I'll make my way through the others.

Wasteland wasn't exactly a household name, but Wasteland 2 still pulled in huge funding.

The graph is looking good! Looks like we might make a couple stretch goals.*rubs hands together*
Edit: I'm totally wrong about the release dates: the internet tells me that Underworld beat Wolf 3D to the shelves by a couple of months. I had thought that...

Underworld wasn't released before Wolfenstein 3D, but it does pre-date it in most senses -- it was (relatively famously) on account of having seen an early Underworld tech demo that John Carmack was inspired to write the Wolf 3D game engine.

Wolf 3D was a much simpler game, of course, so it was completed much faster than Underworld, which is why they came out so close together.

As for Wasteland 2, I think it's a safe bet that it pulled in the huge dollars it did on account of its relationship to the incredibly popular (and still recent) Fallout series.

Just 28 hours left now and nearing 800k.
800,000 now also includes enhanced music. So spread the word even more if you didn't yet.
