Yup, that was my first thought since it was/is an Altar game, which is now a subsidiary of Bohemia; the latter of which is Steam douche-nozzles all the way.

Another removal, not that long after the last one, and again, it doesn't look all that likely that this one will return either; really sad news.

I am really curious as to why Bohemia Interactive suddenly bailed from GOG.Back in 2014,the Arma games and Original War were leaving,and most people were convinced that it is because of Steamwork integration for multiplayer.But the funny part is that Original War and UFO Afterlight don't even use Steamworks.That raises the question if maybe Bohemia became paranoid and went all DRM and why?.Cheers

I think there was some sort of fallout between GOG and Bohemia. As to why, we can only guess.

That's weird to think about; you'd think this would be a professional matter. I can envision Bohemia pulling it due to lack of sales/not having time to deal with GOG, but still, it's weird.
