Are topics about sports now frowned upon too or why isn't there the usual quadrennial thread for discussing the beautiful game and the tournament? I guess EA and mictrotransactions-ridden FIFA is to blame for football taking a bit of a reputational nosedive these last years too.

Currently watching the Hungary - France game with Hungary literally just having scored one against the world's current best team, but the tournament has been generally entertaining so far.

Probably exactly like Eurovision, there's going to be a vast swathe of us who only vaguely understand or
SaH pagh jay'. about what is in essence; 11 people on a pitch, kicking around a ball for an inordinate amount of time.

There's the other factor where it's a ticking time bomb before it becomes a slap fight of petty politics; who sang the worst cover of that Queen song, for example. Was it Lithuania, Lichtenstein, or France?

I think -

FIFA as an organization selling out the game of the people, to the game of the greedy, is more of a problem than a video game.

I think super agents farming the market of players to ensure they get millions upon millions to sell a player, often causing friction between a player and club to force a move, is a bigger reason.

I think clubs trying to make their own league to cover their wreckless spending, taking the game out of the reach of the working class, is a bigger reason.

I also think ownerships through questionable means, possible match fixing, buying out leagues and stepping on smaller clubs through power-house funding is also a problem.

But aye, it's been a decent euro's so far, even if England's team is just all hype and so far shown nothing to be excited for. Italy have been class though!

also, credit to Darvond for not even talking about football and just deciding to try doom the thread already. Top class that mate, awoosh!

You mean, like a vast amount of the rest of the world has only a very vague understanding about what exactly is supposed to be interesting about American Football or Baseball?

(and I'm saying that as someone who isn't interested in any of the aforementioned sports)

Because no one cares about this nonsense?

Yeah, exactly. I say that as someone who also doesn't give a [epithet] about the NFL or MLB.

I do :(
I have watched the games. It’s ok. VAR is a POS though, nearly ruined one game already (penalty which should never have been). I don’t generally watch football anymore for several years, it’s only about money. But euros and World Cup I watch.
England team are of course more interested in political matters than actually learning how to play the game as usual.

You've just made a topic about it. There. Why the melodrama? Are you the underdog because not every single human cares about it and talks about it everywhere?

And me too. Really nice tournament so far.
I'm not a big football fan (I prefer hockey), but some of the games were interesting and worth watching.

Sorry, yes, we should get back to cancel culture, and drm/control mechanisms infecting gog ASAP! ;o)
Football is not for me and I do not even know the rules but people who enjoy it talking about it is no skin off my back.

All I know is you must kick the ball, not the balls. I know there is women's football as well.

I see your smiley.... but are you trying to imply that I think that topics about non-(computer)-gaming subjects don't belong here? I said no such thing.
My only point was: the whole "victim role" is a bit absurd. It's like saying that hamburgers and pizzas are not appreciated by most people.

You're blowing things out of proportion, OP clearly alluded to the fact that there have been threads for discussing either the world cup or the Euros in the past and just wondered why there hasn't been one for this/last year's tournament.

Good game from ze Germans vs. Portugal an hour ago - a bit biased of course, but this was arguably the most entertaining one of the tournament so far, certainly in terms of how and how many goals were scored in one game.
What is it with scoring own goals this year?

Topics don't just appear by wondering why they don't. Did you miss the "frowned upon" part?
Is there a problem? The craze is all over Europe; it takes more effort to avoid it than... well, the opposite. Maybe there is a vocal minority on GOG that doesn't like it or care for it (I said "maybe", I actually don't know)... so what, get over it, enjoy your chat about it... in this topic.
