Meet the mind behind the legendary RPG and its long-awaited successor.

It's finally happening: <span class="bold">Torment: Tides of Numenera</span>, the thematic follow-up to one of the most celebrated RPGs of all time, is just around the corner. There are plenty of things linking these two games together and Colin McComb, the writer and designer heavily involved in both, is here to talk about these connections while revisiting his most acclaimed creation yet.

Starting at 2PM EDT/ 7PM UTC today, Colin will join us on <span class="bold">Twitch.tv/gogcom</span> to play some Planescape: Torment, the game that he co-designed with his band of fellow dreamcatchers back at Black Isle Studios. As the Creative Lead in the upcoming Torment: Tides of Numenera, Colin is also the perfect person to provide additional insight into the turn-based RPG that inXile is now developing, fuelled by a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign.

To those who have played and enjoyed the original <span class="bold">Planescape: Torment</span>, the spectacular success of its spiritual successor's campaign (it gathered over $4,188,000 in pledges) came as no surprise. After all, this is the RPG that has been topping Best Of lists ever since its 1999 release and remains the best-selling game here on GOG.com. Still considered to be among the most complex, thought-provoking, and multi-layered games ever released, it's also become the subject of countless <span class="bold">glowing reviews</span> and <span class="bold">retrospectives</span>.

So tune in on <span class="bold">Twitch.tv/gogcom</span> today at 2PM EDT/ 7PM UTC to learn more about the Torment saga, while watching Colin McComb revisit Planescape: Torment.

<span class="bold">Torment: Tides of Numenera</span> is scheduled for release on February 28th and you can pre-order it now, DRM-free on GOG.com to get Lords of Xulima as a free bonus.
Oooooooh decisions, decisions - do I want to try and watch a bit of this, or hold out - I don't like spoiling surprises! Even if it's just gameplay!
I wonder whether the sequel brings closer a enhanced edition of Planescape: Torment? It would help to make the older title more accesible for players who never tried it before. Anyway, this sequel looks promising, but the shoes it has to fill are huge shoes. Hoping for the best and congratulations for succeeding already in making the new title a reality!

He will stream original Planescape Torment, not the new game :)

The announcement title does say that he will “play Planescape: Torment and talk about Tides of Numenera,” though.

What kind of monster do you take me for! Now that I'm thinking of it, I should see if I can dig up my decade old (or so) save from my last playthrough. I need to avoid giving my cube to that evil pile of bones and see if I can't get the Modron for a companion finally.

Wait, did I just admit I haven't played Planescape in a decade or so? Maybe I *am* that monster and should fire it up again as recompense.
Seriously... does Twitch REQUIRE Flash to be installed? ARGGGGHHHH!!!!!

No, it doesn't. There is an HTML player. I watch Twitch regularly in Firefox, and I don't have Flash installed on my PC (excluding Edge, which has a sandboxed Flash incorporated into it).

Cool! So is this a plug-in I need to get for Firefox, or did I miss a link to an alternate way to watch on the Twitch page? Thanks for the heads up!

There's no plug-in. I just go www.twitch.tv/<streamer name> and it plays normally (You can force the HTML5 player for a live stream by using the link http://player.twitch.tv/?channel=&lt;stream channel name>&html5 , but I've seldom had to). Sometimes the chat doesn't work, though. If it doesn't work for you, I don't know what to suggest. Well, apart from watching in Chrome or Edge.
Some funny things Colin said that I feel merits comment.

Colin seems to be under the impression trash mobs have no purpose. For me they make the world seem more alive and dangerous, are a source of currency, help highlight what happens when you lose and get you familiar with combat mechanics.

Also complaining about the lack of clothes on people makes Colin seem immature. People can and should be shown wearing a variety of garments just like is present in the real world. Planescape is presumably not 1950s with everyone buttoned up and wearing ties and long dresses. Is Colin a conservative?
He basically said they put a bunch of half naked female npcs to make the game more appealing for male gamers ("deliberate appeal for the demographic" as he put it). I think that's what he was hoping to avoid rather than be generally opposed to "skin".

It's a bit weird since low res characters in an isometric perspective aren't exactly what I'd call sexy but hey, it was a long time ago. Although the game did have those "pedia" entries. Here's a townsperson for example:

I guess he thought it was cheap pandering.

Sorry, but not always. Look at the trash mobs in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 for example. I can agree with some in Baldur's Gate 1 where you can encounter some adventurer parties in a wilderness area that may taunt you that you are weaker than them (and you are). Sometimes you can choose to fight them. Trash mobs like this work. But other encounters made no sense whatsoever. Like that guy at the Firewine Bridge boasting that he's the greatest swordsman in the Sword Coast. How stupid does one have to be to wander up to a group of 6 well equiped adventurers and start talking shit?

I don't think trash mobs in Baldur's Gate 2 were done right at all. You are already experienced and can get some fairly decent gear early in BG2. So how much sense does it make for a small group of 6 minimally armed bandits to attack an experienced party of 6 with decent gear? From such mobs, the XP is negligable, the gear crap and the danger non-existant, same with the intelligence of said bandits. IIRC, you could have a SINGLE mugger attack you in the docks district. 6 experienced well armed adventurers vs 1 minimally armed street trash, yeah, I think we all know how that's going to turn out. There's also a time you get attacked outside the Copper Coronet, can't remember if it was 2 or 3 guys. The drunken guy starts a fight and the another(s) join in anyways,.....right........ In the Forgotten Realms, if Waterdeep is the "CIty of Splendors" then Athkatla is the "City of Retards"
