An old friend of mine used to play it all the time and i'd like her to relive those memories.

It was around 2000, sprite based and somewhat sci-fi themed.

The most memorable feature was a ball powerup that made blocks your ball touched slowly melt away, as if they were being dissolved by acid. Once a block was gone it let off one or two green drops which could affect the next block they hit with the original acid effect. This, of course, could lead to some awesome chain reactions.

Thanks in advance!

I know it and I own it. Give me a sec to find the box so I can get the name exactly right.

Ricochet Infinity.

It's the acid ball that makes the blocks slowly melt.

Oh well.. in case that guy can't find it, you could check this list.
Most probably the game you're looking for is DX-Ball: http://www.blitwise.com/Scorched_Reality/index.html

It was released in the early 2000s, played it a lot myself as a kid and it's still a very good one :D
