Sadly I don't have a lot to go on. I think the game was about an evil theme park/circus or something, with a possibly purple protagonist, or protagonist with purple clothing. Either way, I remember the colour purple had prominence in some way. The camera might have been fixed for every area, sort of like Silver, or The Longest Journey (edit : definitely not 1st person), and I can distinctly recall a very dark and gloomy atmosphere, at least for the beginning part of the game, or failing that, whatever part of the game you played in the demo.

I'm pretty sure the game released very late in the DOS to windows transition, perhaps mid 90s, because I remember being surprised at the fact that the game had/could be launched in DOS.

Day of the tentacle had a big purple tentacle, was released in 93, adventure. Not too gloomy though.

Not it, but good guess. The game I'm talking about must have been released at least 1 or 2 years later based on the graphics that I can remember. The characters were far more sharper (I suspect a 640x480 resolution) and not comically portrayed at all from what I recall.

Nope, but I still want to play it one day :)

Bad Day on the Midway, maybe? Seems to have a lot of purple...
Goosebumps, that had a lot of purple in:

Noctropolis, perhaps?

That's definitely a move in the right direction in terms of style and graphics, but it wasn't first person like that. You saw your character on screen and moved him around with the mouse/keyboard (can't remember which - I'm leaning to the exclusive use of the keyboard)

Leroux: Noctropolis, perhaps?
No sorry. Looks like a cool game though

You description reminds me somewhat of the circus level in Sanitarium.
or [url=http://www.gog.com/game/pandemonium_2]Pandemonium 2? Though not for DOS.
Neither of those sorry, though I've always been curious about the latter.
Not Pandemonium, but, the way the character and enemies are animated in Pandemonium 2 is pretty damn close to what I remember, in terms of quality and overall style.

It's an awesome game. You really should play it. It's a rare example of a game designed for an adult audience, where the word "adult" does not mean "tits and gore". It's very dark, very philosophical and very surreal. I highly recommend it.

Cool stuff, I'll put it next to 'I have no mouth and I must scream' on my to-do-play list.
