I still cannot believe that GOG refused to get it for free. But sometimes I guess people just do dumb things without any logical reasons. I contacted GOG a long time ago and did not even get as much as an answer. Sorry GOG, but that was a VERY, VERY bad move!

I would have understood GOG's decision if they would not have free games in their store at all. But since this is not the case I am really disappointed. I am really not a fan of Steam but in this case I am glad that they exist and gave you a platform to make your game (which - I cannot say it enough - is really worth playing) known to other gamers as well. Again: you guys did an amazing work and GOG simply made the wrong decision. So please don't think one moment that GOG's rejection could be your fault or the fault of this game - that's absolutely not the case. I wish you all the best!

No it's not - please stop agreeing to them. They DO have freeware on their store so what makes yours different - except maybe that it's better than most of what they offer for free?

Some statistics if anyone's curious.

Traum currently has over 13 000 owners (it's a free game that when uninstalled, it disappears from user's account and does not count as being owned).

And over 2500 people has it wishlisted.

Traum also has 118 user reviews (112 positive, 6 negative). Most of the praise has been about the story and atmosphere.

Median play time is 31 minutes.


Traum was featured on Gamespot's best steam games -video where it got praise for its sound design and storytelling. No other major game sites have featured the game. Also, no major youtubers or streamers have played it, which is a shame. I think the engine used and its visual may deter people away as I've seen comments telling that they don't want to play RPG Maker games because of its reputation.

What I would really like to see is reviews from professionals. I do appreciate the user reviews too, of course, but professional reviews would most likely have more insight. It would help us and me get better.

All in all, for our first game it did well. And I'm very happy to hear people liking the story, as it really was the very first piece of fiction I have ever written.

But no more Traum updates from me, I promise. I don't want to be seen as a spammer.

This is not an update, but a question.

As you know, Traum is a free game. You can play it for free on Steam and on Itchio. Recently, we've been discussing an idea to bring sort of an optional dlc on steam where you'd get some extras, like soundtrack, artbook and something similar for a small fee.

That bring the topic of GOG. It's known that GOG doesn't accept free games in their store, which is fine. But the question I want to ask is that if the version with said extras were available on GOG, how would you feel about that? The game wouldn't be any different from the other stores, only that here you'd have to get the "extras version" while on steam you could choose if you'd want that or not.

I want to hear your honest opinions about this, so we could further explore the idea either with Traum or with our future games.

Offering optional DLC is a good idea but not everyone likes soundtracks and artbooks. I think it's best to offer the game free on GOG like on the other stores. People would probably complain that they have to buy your game to get it on GOG while it's free with optional DLC on other stores.

Why do you keep saying this? It's just not true. Just filter "Free" on the store and you will see that GOG is not only offering demos for free.

Cannot say much about the DLC suggestion though. Only that I would not be interested in it. However I might simply not be the target group since I rarely would pay extra money for an artbook or a soundtrack.


But they already rejected it - so that's no option.

Thank you for your answer. This is exactly the point we're worried about. While we would want people to play our game, we don't want anyone to feel "less valued".

As GOG does not want free games here (at least not Traum, we don't know if they'd accept it even if it was commercial), we might have to ditch the idea fully.

Making of Traum -DLC has been released and is available on Steam DRM-free. It's a way for those who want to support us to do so, as all the revenue from that goes to our next project which is way more ambitious than Traum.

Greetings everyone! We are proud to announce the release of Making of Traum DLC! In this downloadable package you will find a pdf file with in-depth information about what was going on behind the scenes during the development and also some never before seen concept art!

We have also included the soundtrack of Traum which consists of 15 high quality tracks!


Why have a free game, but a paid dlc? Let me explain:

We didn't want to simply ask for donations or do patreon etc. For one thing, it doesn't feel right to us, just to ask for funding and wouldn't be able to give anything back right now. Quite simply, we don't have anything big to show about our next project yet. Second, laws in Finland kind of goes against asking for crowd funding or donations. You'd have to sell something to be able to make something out of it, so here we are.

Traum the game will stay free, but if you want to support our work, this is a great way to do so! All of your contributions goes toward funding our next projects! This not only motivates us to do more, but also it speeds up the development process as we could focus on it more. We all have jobs or projects and other life stuff to manage, so time is limited to spend on this.

I'd also like to say that we will no longer make games with RPG Maker. The limitations of that engine are too great for what we want to create. We have invested in another engine, which gives us so much more flexibility and freedom to really create something that we think you would enjoy. In the future we will have games that look like us. No longer we will be seen as just another RPG Maker developer. Our two artists will be able to truly express themselves and develop an artstyle that suits our image! Our composer can create music that lights the world alive! Our writer will no longer be chained to write stories having to keep the engine limitations in mind!

We have grand plans for the future, and we will keep making story heavy games for all of you to immerse yourselves in!
