MarkoH01: Any specific game you are referring to here?

misscrabtree456: All of them. You can't just check out a game without some video clip that has nothing to do with what the game play is, running first. I don't have to put up with that. I am not a gog captive. I don't look for games on Gog anymore. I am not going to sit through all those stupid videos, that can't be bypassed. Gog needs to go out of business, that is what businesses run by morons do.
Wow - finally after two weeks a reply.

First: what you are saying is untrue. I just checked a few of those trailers and while SOME - especially launch trailers - don't show gameplay others very well do. The trailers in most cases aren't made by GOG but by the devs or the publishers so maybe you should adress your anger to them. You will also see the same trailers everywhere - if one with gameplay is available it will be shown on GOG as well in most cases.

Second: Why does GOG need to go out of business? If GOG goes out of business all those who don' care about trailers (because in a trailer in most cases you cannot see whjat kind of a game it is you are about to buy) would be punished too. And since you said that you don't even look for games on GOG anymore why do you even complain? Shouldn't it be of any concern to you if a trailer for a game you aren't interested anymore to buy on the store you just watched the trailer on is usuable or not?

If you really think, trailers are that important and if you really think, a wrong trailer is the big problem GOG is having at the moment on this website then you might be better off elsewehere indeed. So all the best for you to find the store with the perfect trailers (I suggest youtube by the way).

I've yet to run into a single video that GOG forces me to watch.

Given some leeway in language, a bit of that is down to definitions, though.
I haven't encountered a video that GOG forced me to watch to the end.
They're damn well shoving autoplaying videos in my face all the time, though.

They are trivial to bypass.

I'm curious now: how?
Videos in the store play (or at the very least pop up) on hover/click. Is there a hidden setting I've missed?

There are countless ways to do it. What I do was to never permit gog.com to make a request to youtube.com. So I never saw those videos everyone complains about in the first place. See screenshot.

For an alternative, see e.g. bkgaming's solution: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/simple_code_snippets_for_the_new_site_design

Or you could play with something like greasemonkey... maybe even a simple ublock rule could do it.

I absolutely wouldn't call any of that "trivial".
That said, thanks a lot for the pointers, it's much appreciated. BK's script works like a charm.

2 weeks, that is because I can't stand the GOG interface anymore, and avoid it for steam's much more friendly site. I just can't stand Gog anymore. And turning off the videos is not "easy" I don't like having to run some unknown script to stop something that shouldn't be shoved down my throat in the frist place. So yeah, GOG is just an after thought now. I may look at it from time to time, or I may just drift away for good. We will see how that plays out, and just how dicky GOG gets.

Well ... as I said ... good bye and good luck then.

If Steam is your alternative (including DRM and all) I wonder why you even used GOG in the first place. It is a well known fact that Steam in most cases is cheaper and has more games. However they also have DRM and that's why they will never be an alternative for me. Humble, itch ... but Steam? Never.
