There's another thread about boss battles, but such battles are typically only a small portion of the battes in the game, so I decided to make a thread about other battles. So what other battles have you encountered that are particularly difficult?
Here are some:
Bard's Tale 1: Endgame encounters with large enemy groups. The game fortunately doesn't put enemies with multi-target attacks or that can inflect nasty status ailments in them, but even with good AC, when there are 99 enemies in a group, some of your characters are bound to take some damage. Also, such big groups don't appear alone; there are often enemies that are actually dangerous individually. (Of note, in the Apple IIgs version, if you say "burger" at the Temple of the Mad God, you are sent into a battle with 4 groups of 99 enemies, some of which *can* hit your whole party. Good luck!)
Might and Magic 2: Some of the encounters in the desert are ridiculous. There is, I believe, a spot that has a pretty hard battle, and if you cast Jump to skip it (or if you manage to win it), a *very* hard battle (with something like 200+ strong enemies) follows. Also, at higher levels, you might encounter 100+ of strong enemies like Ancient Dragons in a single encounter. (Or Orc Gods, which have 50,000 HP *each*. Be prepared for a loooooooooong fight.)
Elminage Gothic: How about an enemy that acts twice per round, can attack 4 times per action, and can hit for 300 damage per attack? To make things worse, this enemy can attack your back row and each attack has a chance to behead? As if that weren't bad enough, this enemy's Agility is higher than the maximum possible for party members, so you are not going to get the initiative?
If that weren't bad enough, how about this: Later in the dungeon, there is a stronger variant of this enemy. Also, you can apparently encounter *4* of them in a single battle. Good luck! (I actually didn't make it that far when I played.) From what I hear, being level 300+ is not enough to make them manageable.
