Ugh. Hated that fight!

Duriel has a special place of hatred in my heart. Occasionally, I kill him by climbing over the fallen mounds of my own corpse. Fangskin, that git on level 2 of the Claw Viper Temple in Act 2, has another place of hatred.

Sephiroth from the first two Kingdom Hearts games makes my list.

First one That comes to mind is the Dahaka on the Hardest Difficulty at the end in Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Primevil from Etrian Odyssey. If you are fighting with the standard strategy, you need to keep track of the boss's pattern or else your party will be blasted for ~2,500 points of damage. (Maximum possible HP for party members is 999.) Also, even if you manage to survive long enough, when the boss is low on health, it will sometimes use an attack that has a 90% chance of killing each party member, and it hits your whole party, and this is a game where there isn't any good protection against instant death.

I hear that Digital Devil Saga has a nasty optional boss called Hitoshura. I have not fought him, but from what I hear, that battle is ridiculous. Kill all the boss's helpers, and he uses an attack that deals 5 digit damage to your party (max HP for party members is again 999). Leave one of the boss's helpers alive long enough, and it casts Recarmdra, which will fully heal the boss's HP, and you now have to worry about that 5 digit damage attack. There's a passive skill that makes you invincible, but it only works when you are asleep, and the only way to fall asleep is to get hit by a spell that enemies use (you can't cast it on yourself), and like most status spells, it can be resisted.

Mortal Kombat 9 - Shao Khan in normal, NORMAL!!! I mean, it was to be expected from a MK game but it's one of those things that make you want to destroy everything, it lasted like 40m and i was on a xbox party with friends, one of them decided that it was a good idea to make fun of me and things got ugly, for a few minutes things got quiet but then i went back to the game.

---

Legend of Grimrock 2 - I'm not even going to lie, i did defeat the boss but i had to cheat and since it's spoilers i won't mention much about it but anyone that did it in the first playthrough without cheats deserves a medal, no joke (on normal or hard, easy doesn't count).

Pretty much all the boss fights in tmnt 3 on the nes
The demon hellhound at the end of Chapter 1 in the Witcher. (if considered a boss).
After repeatedly dying I went online to see what I was doing wrong and found out I wasn't spec'd right. But I kept trying and dying. It was annoying that I quit playing for a while. Started over months later with the right spec (the knockdown sign) and I killed it in less than 10 seconds. So silly how someone can make an honest mistake and have a game ruined early on like that. But it wasn't even a mistake I made really, I just wasn't aware how specific that battle was going to be and wasn't prepared for it.

And then you gain one level and the boss is suddenly very easy.

Incidentally, in Oath in Felghanna, you can reach the mountains as soon as you get double jump, and doing so lets you level up to the point where the next two bosses become ridiculously easy. (Of course, you will need to kill stronger normal enemies, and if you don't level up in the mine depths first, you are going to have a hard time with them.)
Dark Souls. Gave up on the game at the first boss.
I've had quite a few RPG bosses I just couldn't get past, and most of the time, it's the final boss. Most embarrassing is not getting past the tutorial boss in Nier, even on easy. One final boss I thought was going to get away was Xenoblade Chronicles. I could go back a save and grind and and then have to redo some other boss fights, but I persisted in just redoing just the final area several times and trying out many different party configurations. I think I hadn't distributed the skill points of party members I hardly used, so that helped in the fine-tuning. In Final Fantasy 3 DS, I did have to go back and grind the appropriate classes up and redo the last part, which took about a couple hours. It helped I really didn't have anything else to do. Normally I would be too disheartened to retry and upset at the game for allowing that situation. I hope they fixed that on ports to other platforms.
end boss of doom64

end boss of etherlords

end boss of neverwinter nights as a wizard

some that come to mind
Hardest bossfight? Every little mini boss in Divine Divinity, this game is so fecking unfair, even on so called "easy" difficulty, that each monster, that is not one of the normal monsters, becomes nearly unbeatable!
Those guys who created the game clearly didnt`t understand what balancing and fairness means!
Oh, and many of the skills are a bad joke, too. I mean, a restoration skill which restores one hitpoint every 12 seconds? No mana restore skill, even in the mage skilltree? C`mon, do you guys hate players?

Are you suggesting that lynch at the very beginning is too hard? NONSENSE!

I almost lasted 2 seconds against him! :P

Lynch? Who was Lynch again? I don`t remember character names that well. I refer to them like "The guy who gave me a quest to kill this one monster and retrieve some item for him." or "The monster that shoots fireballs at me while making bad jokes about my mama." or some like that.
