I just bought a new Windows 10 Home HP all in one system.

My problem is this--I'm 77 years old, have been using computers for a long time (my first computer was a Radio Shack Color Computer 1 with 32k of RAM and a tape drive) However, I'm a user, not a techie.

I HATE today's computer games--long on snazzy graphics and complication, but I find them short on real plot and substance. I HATE first person shooters.. On the other hand, I loved the old D&D games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Pool of Radiance) and games like Master of Orion, Phantasmagoria, Sid Meier's Gettysburg, even the old DOS Gettysburg: The Turning Point (4 color with terrible graphics but amazingly true to the historical results when played.)

Can I get those games here? And can I get them already configured to play on my Windows 10 system without having to make a lot of complicated, technical monkeying with the system beforehand?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Baldur's Gate 1&2 and Icewind Dale are currently on sale for less than $5 each.
GOG.com is short for Good Old Games. This site was founded on bringing old games to newer systems including Windows 10. You can find those games and a large number of other golden oldies here.
Welcome to GOG! As maxleod and Drosa pointed out, you'll definitely find the sort of games you enjoy here. You'll also come across some modern games that are similar to or based off of those sorts of games, EG: the Pillars of Eternity games, the Divinity: Original Sin duology, even the official Baldur's Gate 3.'

Typically speaking, GOG is the best place to buy games if you want to play older titles, though. Like Drosa said, they bring old games to new systems, that's how GOG got its start.

Again, welcome to GOG! If you're looking for people to chat with or potentially play games with, feel free to PM me!

Wait a minute.

It says you made your gog.com account on December of 2012 and you are totally new here?

How is this possible?

You are like the fifth person on gog.com who I have seen since being on gog.com since 2011 saying they are new here and yet made their gog.com account in either 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013.

I do not understand.

Are you one of those people who never purchased a video game from gog.com only made a gog.com all those years ago to only claim the free video games?

Like when the three classic old top down Fallout video games were given out for free on gog.com in 2013, etc?

In theory at least, that's what GOG is all about - making sure all of the old classics it sells are compatible with the newest operating systems on the market. And they do get it right most of the time, but considering the sheer variety of hardware in the PC space, driver versions etc., you can consider yourself lucky as hell if you don't run into some issues eventually.

That being said, DOS games are a safe bet, since they use a virtualized environment called DOSBox to run in. DOSBox is a stand-alone piece of software which GOG tests the games against, so its compatibility is great on Windows 10, MacOS and Linux.

Early Windows (3.11, 95, 98) games are more of a hit and miss when it comes to running on Windows 10. As I was saying before, GOG does fix these to run without issues most of the time, but your mileage may vary. You can always get a refund if something outright refuses to run on your system, though that's never really happened to me.

As to what is available here and what isn't, you're free to search for yourself: https://www.gog.com/en/games

Once you buy a game it will be added to your catalog and you'll be able to download an installer to set it up on your PC, just like in the good old days. There are also a couple of free games you can "buy" (you still have to add them to your cart and purchase them for $0) to test this with.

For example: https://www.gog.com/en/game/tyrian_2000

This is probably about being new on the forum, not on gog.com. I was a customer for 3 years before I joined the forums too, and AFAIK that date will match your GOG account creation, not the time when you join the forums.

Don't forget:
https://www.gog.com/game/forgotten_realms_the_archives_collection_two
(Contains Pool of Radiance and other games that use the same engine)

Collections 1 (Eye of the Beholder) and 3 (Dungeon Hack) might also be worth looking into, and there's the Krynn series.

There's also the Might & Magic 6-pack, which might be worth checking out, along with the Ultima series. (The earliest games in those series would probably have been able to run with your first computer's specs, or something not too far removed (though you'd probably need a floppy drive to load the games).)

I can think of a few ways.

1) Got an account earlier, probably saw some random and it looked interesting, then forgot about it. (I did this with HB, getting HB when i donated for Mighty #9 kickstarter... 3 years later try to sign up and my email was already present)

2) Got an account because son/grandson has an account and used it for a few PM's (and probably nothing else)

3) There was some giveaway, say Witcher 1 for free, signed up and got the free game... and like before just forgot about it.

4) Shared email address, and while son may have set it up (based on 43 in the name that seems more likely) just reset the password to use the current email.

Hmmm i do agree it does seem a bit odd. And the writing style doesn't feel like a 70 yearold, feels more like a 20-30 yearold, and entering territory of people having difficulty of even typing, or understanding anything computer related.

So this does really feel more a troll post.

Hi and welcome! Yes, you will find several games available here, the Dungeons and Dragons Gold Box games, and several others classics Like Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Wizardry 8, X-COM UFO Defense, Blade Runner and many other, now there is currently a classic games sale on the main page, you can find several titles! :D

EDIT: Also there are other newr titles I personally recommend if you like classic RPGs that you mind find interesting like, Pathfinder Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous (great RPGs with a good story and hundreds of hours of fun), Wasteland 2 and 3, Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2, Tyranny and Nox Archaist.

Welcome to GOG! Great to see an older gamer on here. Enjoy your journey finding the games you are looking for.
D&D Gold Box Games

https://www.gog.com/en/game/dungeons_dragons_krynn_series
https://www.gog.com/en/game/dungeons_dragons_ravenloft_series

https://www.gog.com/game/forgotten_realms_the_archives_collection_two
https://www.gog.com/game/forgotten_realms_the_archives_collection_three

The only Gold Box games that are not on GOG are the Neverwinter Nights game that was part of the Savage Frontier setting (and also a MMORPG that used AOL), the two Buck Rogers games, and Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace. Community Wishlist links:
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/spelljammer_pirates_of_realmspace
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/buck_rogers_countdown_to_doomsday
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/buck_rogers_matrix_cubed

GOG also has Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape: Torment, D&D Stronghold, The Temple of Elemental Evil, and Dragonshard.

GOG doesn't have Dragonstrike, unfortunately. (More wish list links)
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/dragonstrike
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/buck_rogers_25th_century_parts_i_ii_ssi_add_dragonstrike_ssi

GOG also doesn't have Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. This is the game that UbiSoft infamously released with an installer bug where uninstalling the game would also wipe your windows system files, so I don't blame any store that doesn't carry it. (Even Steam doesn't have it, and Steam will carry pretty much anything.)

If you like Master of Orion, don't forget Master of Magic. The original DOS game is still here for now as there is a remake that may result in this one becoming no longer for sale at some point.

Welcome back! Or just welcome!

As you can see many of the games you mentionned are available on GOG, some of them on sale right now (Baldur's gate 1&2, Icewind Dale), maybe you'll get to enjoy them again. Those are "Enhanced" versions, but you'll get the classic version with them as a bonus if you prefer.
