Yet another reason why DRM-free is better! It's so nice to not have to worry about an automatic, errant patch ruining a great game.

I feel so left out with all this random necro-posting for literally no reason. :(

This. Especially considering how Ubisoft games are already terribly buggy/glitchy to begin with, it seems like AC Unity would be the LAST thing they'd want to fuck a patch up on. Did no one learn anything from the Arkham Knight fiasco?

My guess would be ... erm ... no?
To be honest, I think the whole gaming industry is messed up beyond belief to begin with, and it's been that way for years now. While I fully understand that game developers and publishers not only want but actually need to earn money, the way they approach this is just a big F#!% YOU to their customers, with EA and Ubisoft apparently being in some kind of ongoing competition to see who of them can annoy their customers the most while still selling a buttload of games.

IIRC AC Unity gave a free large DLC to reward peoples patience because of patch screwups?.

Another bad case of forced patching: Skyrim 1.2. This particularly version broke things that were previously working, such as elemental resistance. The following update, 1.3, was there mostly to fix the problems caused by 1.2.
Also, there have been a few cases where a mandatory update replaced the executable with something not executable, making the game unplayable (apparently happened to the Mac version of Cave Story+, and with the Steam version of Elminage Gothic.)
The second case is unlikely to happen at gog.com since I believe they test each submitted update and a problem as bad as the executable file missing would be caught right away.

You should see the list of "extra requirements" on the back of GTAV PC. There isn't even any room left for screenshots.

At least with DRM-free games you sometimes never get patches and if you do get them (often) much later.

Breja: What? Things being installed on my computer without my oversight a bad idea? By Jove! Who would have thought! Thank havens we have YouTubers to share such wisdom!
Hahaha. This is advancement, youtuber's disseminating the education to the masses. No sympathy for you, GTA4 was so bad I stopped buying from R*, hence have had zero problems with and so called GTA game since. Just stop buying shit from these developers and they will go under, simple.
