richlind33: Creative Assembly was notoriously stingy when it came to patching, until the god-awful Rome II released. lol

I doubt they even try to make their games balanced, because they can barely manage to release a game that functions properly. But some people love them, so go figure.

Radiance1979: and their forces are rising, 3k had a lot of sales compared to their other titles, over a million copies sold in launch week, now maybe this was also because of our chinese friends and other 3k lovers since their numbers dwindled fast.. i belief warhammer 2 holds 10k more players ( at 20k ) at a monthly average then 3k does atm
Good marketing is hella cheaper than good game development. I've seen good reviews for both games you mention, but after Rome II I'm extremely wary. Still, no reason not to give warhammer a 2 hour test drive when it's on discount. Are you familiar with it?

yes i am

Actually voted for Warhammer 2 as the best Total War game released, so i am a bit biased here.

What i enjoyed most about Warhammer is the campaign version you can acces when you have both warhammer games in possesion Mortal Empires. Different races and different leaders for each race granting different types of playthroughs is really a big plus. You can easily spend 40 hours with each race just to discover their story mechanic and or strategy. I actually never did any of the story campaigns outside Chaos in Warhammer 1 so that is something i still have waiting for me. Atm i actually took a brake removing all total war games from my library so i have some time to finish up on other stuff.

Coming from Rome II you can expect much better tactical fights, especially the use of magic can take some time to adjust too. A rudimentary take on diplomacy, leaving all there is to War. Nation building or settlement building is also satisfactory though with the way Warhammer is setup, more of a story line then a free for all you can find your freedom to do what you want very limited especially on higher difficulty settings.
The story perspective is something you really need to keep in mind while grand and special at times it can also feel limiting and more of a puzzle then previous games ever did and especially if you weren't one for objectives and such but just global domination is your key.

It seems you just missed out on the last steam sale going on but if your really eager you can find a nice discount on sites such as Fanatikal ( wich is endorsed by SEGA )

All in all i would certainly recommend these games to anyone willing to try a different take in Total War and does not shy away from a fantasy setting

Thanks for the helpful info! So no problems with jumping in at Warhammer II, which is a finished product at this point?

Not really true, they just finished with a huge beta trying out different mechanics and other campaign implementations that, if implemented will affect the entire game on a ground level, though this is atm speculative. CA works around the clock with some of their most passionate players to ensure blablablablablabla ;)

So yea if you are a new player go for it but don't expect this game to be done any time soon.... I have to underline that this will probably affect mortal empires the most and maybe not the story campaigns waiting for you if you plan on playing warhammer 2 first
