That really is an obscene amount of money for a Kickstarter project. I hope it keeps them busy making awesome:)

I think for Wasteland 2 a 3D camera made a lot more sense because the game seems more combat-orientated, so the camera can be rotated and so on. But for a Torment game where most of the time you will be reading dialogue boxes, having an annoying 3D camera Neverwinter Nights style when you are mostly reading could get very annoying and feel unstable.
That's probably why also most backers wanted the 2D backgrounds.

Thanks for all your replies, good of you.
Still don't like it though, nor the annoying camera angle in NWN 2, give me the witcher style any day.

It's an entirely different feel... tactical combat rather than action, a world overview rather than being down in it. It allows for more realistic settings because you can do large areas or only parts of a whole. Also a game can look amazing with a much lower budget.
Every style has its advantages, but this game was for a classic style CRPG and spiritual sequel to Torment.

They're not games for everyone, don't feel any guilt about it. Just as there are hundreds of people who only like the old CRPG style and make fun of Skyrim there are tons of people who love the 3D immersion of Skyrim and dislike the old stuff.
Some of us like both, but you in no way should feel you have to.
For years I bought games that weren't really my thing because everyone acted like you had to, like any gamer worth anything should own and enjoy them. I finally realized when I got a little older it doesn't matter, not even a little bit. Play what you like, buy what you like, and focus on that enjoyment. Gaming isn't a job or a responsibility.

SLP2000: I agree, but with one thing to add - Planescape is said to have the best story of all crpgs.
Even if one don't find the graphic style attractive (apparently, it's possible :P ), it's worth to play and finish this game. It's like not reading Lord of the Rings while being fan of fantasy, or not watching Star Wars if you are fan of sci-fi movies.
Yeah but games are not books or movies, which are all the same general experience and only the plot and such matters. Games are founded on gameplay and for a lot of people no matter how good a story is if the gameplay is not for them they're not interested. And those people make complete sense to me, even if I am a big fan of stories in games.Even if one don't find the graphic style attractive (apparently, it's possible :P ), it's worth to play and finish this game.
