I bought some games in the summer sale. Now there is available the redeem button for all of the bonus games as it says quest completed. I am little confused now, that I have the option to redeem the games. What if I do not redeem them? Will I keep the earned XP for other sales in the future and can cash them in for other games I am personally more interested in? Or are they gone after this summer sale in either case?

No, the XP is a summer sale-specific gimmick and will disappear after the summer sale ends. Redeem your games before it's too late.

If you not redeem the free games, they are lost.
you either:
-don't have the free games in your library, redeem = added to your library;
-you have the free games in your library, redeem = gift code sent to your gog email.
these gift codes expire on 31 july 2016. So you could make some people happy.

no, after the summer sale ends, your XP vanishes. or resets, if you wanna look at it that way.

That's the part that bothers me - when the silently introduced "expiring" gift codes. (At least, I don't recall there being any announcement that some codes have expiration dates on them).

It sucks because you can't save them for such things as birthday gifts, or Christmas, or Fathers/Mothers Day (unless the expiration happens to overlap one of them - such as Father's Day currently).

Expiring gift codes suck.

Good thing they are not gift codes then, but bonus codes.
Bonus codes have had an expiration date since way back. Bonus codes differ from gift codes mainly by the fact that one cannot buy a bonus code, but they have to be created by GOG. Bonus codes have a different format from gift codes, and bonus codes cannot be partially redeemed. Bonus codes are usually given for promotions, or to publishers to use as they see fit.

Bonus codes have been used at least as long as I'm a member, and quite likely even earlier than that. There also used to need a different redemption url than the gift codes.
Is there any way to gift/give away my free copy of "dreamfall chapters". It's not something I'm really interested in, figured someone else might enjoy it. I haven't clicked redeem yet....

Unfortunately, no. Some people have tried asking support to convert it to a giftcode, but they have refused.

If you don't have it yet in your gog library then redeeming it will add it to your library.
If you have it already in your gog library then redeeming it will send an gift code to your gog email address. This code will expire on 2016 july 31. You can give it to anyone you want.
If you don't click on redeem then the game will be lost

Okay - so technically correct. But misses my point.

Point being - EXPIRATION DATES ON CODES SUCK. Particularly when they're in the very near future (like the bonus codes we're specifically talking about ITT).

They should be at least, say, one year (plus maybe one month); to give a chance to use them for special occasions (such as birthdays, Christmas, etc.)

That was my main point - irregardless what the <insert variable name of code type here> code is called.

All IMO ofc..

(Yes, I said irregardless)

These codes were given as part of a promotion. Promotions do usually last a short while, though some do last longer. If, for example, your local electronics store has a promotion that lasts for a week due to them being 10 years open, but the new hardware you want comes in a month later, you can't very well expect them to prolong that promotion for your special occasion, can you?

Other bonus codes do have extremely long expiration codes, like The Bard's Tale that was included with Wasteland 2 and has an expiration date somewhere in 2025, or even no expiration, like the NWN bonus from buying The Witcher 3.

The promotional codes are given for a special occasion, the promotion they are a part of. They are not given to be hoarded and given out after the fact. But what do I know about promotion and marketing, I'm just a humble customer...

I think you shouldn't get so pissed, considering it was given to you.
They could've offered zero bonus codes, so show a bit of gratitude, dude.
It's almost like winning a G.A. , and start complaining about the rules of the giveaway.
Also, screaming with JMich will not help in any way.
