I would like to bring to your attention that many game soundtracks are coming only in MP3. While this is fine for many, there are some who wish to have the FLAC version for the best quality whenever possible.

Currently, many of these games' soundtracks are also available elsewhere for the same price as GOG and they come with MP3+FLAC. Whenever a developer provides the soundtrack here, GOG should really push them into including the FLAC files too.

A few years ago I bought my first album from Google Music, which was also the last. I re-bought the album on disc and the difference is audible even with my now aging headset. Nowadays I have a large collection of albums on CD and all neatly converted to FLAC, they take a bit more space but it's worth the trade off.

You mean considering file size? DSD and MQA are the best IIRC, but pointless without the hardware to make use of the quality. FLAC is still great and much better than MP3 though.

My own PC can output 192Khz, 24-bit audio, which wasn't the default setting; I recommend everyone who cares to go into the advanced settings for their speakers and checking the standard format quality.

I'll remind that simply because the file is appended with .FLAC

it does not guarantee that the audio you will be listening to is lossless xD

what goes in to the actual game's soundtrack never is (there are a few outliers)

only the original author of the piece has an actual lossless version of his works

reproducing the author's works in this 1:1 quality is an effort the great many of people won't be bothered with presenting anyone

but, as it stands

alll the .FLAC iterations of soundtracks on GOG are simply re-encodings of the audio files distributed with the commercial releases of the games--there is no access to the original source audio.

One issue with bandcamp:
* When paying with credit card (at least, don't know if there are other options and if they have this issue), the form asks for your name
* It seems logical to put the name on the credit card here
* But then, the e-mail with the links addresses you by the name you entered there
* Which could very well not be the name you actually go by.

Remember, "name on credit card" might not be the person's preferred name, and it might not even be a name the person even finds acceptable. This is the one issue I have with the site.

(This issue does not come up when you "order" free music from the site; there's no name prompt, and the e-mail doesn't address you by name in that instance.)

You could say that about any file type. Why would GOG or the developers be renaming file extensions? Sounds pretty 'fraudulent' to me.

A Flac encoding of an MP3 file is still lossless. Lossless says nothing about the "quality" of the audio. Though I don't see the point of doing such a thing.

Have you been comparing the uncompressed waveforms with those from inside the games? All of them?

An actual issue with Bandcamp:
If the artist/label decides to remove a release from Bandcamp, it will also be removed from your collection. It'll still be streamable from their mobile app, but can't be downloaded.
