I haven't played Timeshift but Singularity is thoroughly forgettable. The Story is bland and not interesting, combat is subpar, very slow paced and doesn't stand out from any other run of the mill FPS and even the level design
is poor and too linear for my taste.

Well, considering you have a Nameless One avatar, maybe I'd recommend setting your expectations for story on FPSes a little bit lower next time :P

(Just kidding, thanks for the input)

I will think on it but can't promise anything of course.
Story is however not everything to me in a game and i enjoy plenty of games with low story focus or simply subpar plots if it delivers in gameplay, settings, atmosphere etc and in PS:T's case it was the story which saved the game from it's shitty combat system and implementation of 2nd edition rules.

Never played Singularity, but I remember, that Timeshift supports Environmental Audio Extension (EAX), what made absolutely fantastic atmosphere. So if you have HW with EAX support, you should give it a try. ;)
With Singularity, the old, Soviet aesthetic was really interesting! It makes the player feel like an explorer who just stumbled upon time travel. The graphics were a lot more polished as well. Be sure to see the multiple endings of this game!

TimeShift was more generic and the story didn't make much sense, but it gave the player more direct time control. Plus, the game had a more tactical feel to it.

Besides time travel, the one thing in common with both games is that they were way too short. I remember after I defeated the final boss in Singularity I wanted to continue playing the game--but that was it.

If you're looking for another FPS game with graphics like TimeShift, I would suggest Chaser. This was another game that fell under the radar, but I think it deserved a second chance. The levels in Chaser are massive and it will take a while to finish that game!

I love Singularity, and it's a shame about what happened to Raven. The shooting is fantastic, the story is fun, the time powers are interesting, and all-in-all it just feels great to play.

I haven't played Timeshift, though it's on my list. I've heard pretty good things about it, but also that it being completely redesigned right at the end of development probably hurt it, beyond just changing... everything about the game.
I bought both a while back. Completed Singularity over the New Year (largely because it's a Raven game and I love their early stuff - there's a reason why ID trusted them to make games).

Whilst some people criticised the story (and the ending), I really enjoyed it - for me, it was a good action romp, nothing too heavy and some good twists. I find that these days, people want everything to be deeply meaningful and have some pressing social message or push an agenda (or even worse to be "important"). Whilst I'm sure someone is going to turn round and claim that I'm wrong and it's actually about female empowerment, I just enjoyed it for the solid shooter with fun sci-fi schlock story it has.

For me, that's what games should be about.
They are both... well... good games. Not revolutionary or anything but just good. A term that seams to disappear in today's gaming press. A game is ether the next ultra mega hit or complete garbage.

We need more of these "just good" and fun games.
They are both solid as everyone else has been saying. I didn't remember them 8ish (?) years later in detail, but I also don't remember having bad memories. The shooting was solid, and the gimmicks were fun in their respective worlds.

They were both from that time of a lot of lower budget PC-Console crossovers like Project Snowblind that were good but not great.

Not quite sure if they are worth the price that they are here... I think the asking price here is what, 30 dollars? To be fair, Activision still wants 40 dollars for their 8+ year old CoD games.
I love singularity. Have it on steam but played through it on the ps3. At the end of the game i had extreme goosebumbs. when i got the ending achievement (the console versions have achievements) the game told me that this was just one ending. so i checked the achievements and there are many endings. so i believe that it depends on the way people play it when some people love the story and others think its generic. it is a game of many different ways, and thats what makes it special for me. and it also has great mood. i only played the demo from timeshift, but it was fun, so someday i will play the timeshift (allready have the steam version) full version. I love slow motion (i even like the game Chaser). and yes, it is sad about raven software. i always loved the games. Soldier of fortune 1 (played it on the dreamcast with keyboard and mice, on a pc tube monitor :D), sof 2, the hexen games, wolfenstein. i even played quake 4. raven software was awesome.

Yes. But not on GOG. Because GOG decided to turn the German index into an actual self-censorship.

Linko90: Singularity is great. Solid shooting, a bunch of cool tricks and a pretty sweet story.

German here, and I’m playing it right now. Use a VPN to buy it, or buy it if you are on vacation e. g. in the Netherlands if you don’t want to pay a few bucks for a VPN ;)

I love Raven Software. I wish their version of Wolfenstein were available for purchase on any of the pc download shops, but I think some licensing issue or something after Bethesda bought the id ips prevents that.

I know that it's possible to get around the region block. But I still don't like the fact that GOG decides to censor itself, just because of an age restriction in Germany. The 'index' doesn't even mean that a game is forbidden in Germany. For Steam&Co you just have to state your age, then you can buy it. The German government seems to be fine with that. But GOG decided to censor their catalogue and that was a bad and unneccessary decision.
