I'm surprised, Company of Heroes is as old as FlatOut 2.
2006!
I still haven't completed my 2005 game, but I will still sign up for Runaway 2. Played the first one because of the respective time travel thread and had a lot of fun with it.
Wow I didn't realize Blackwell Legacy is that old! Such a good series. I might replay that one or might pick another from the list.

Thanks for hosting these time travels bluethief!
Scratches (Director's Cut version in 2007), delisted from GOG and Steam in 2015.
Hey. I kinda regret choosing Dark Corners of the Earth last time, since I found it really visually off-putting. I'm not really sure why, maybe because it was locked to 60hz. Not entirely willing to write off playing it at some point though.

2006 seems to have been a pretty weak year for gaming. The most influential game might actually have been Gears of War. I looked through the games that have actually been released here and Call of Juarez, Rogue Trooper and FlatOut 2 all seemed worth looking into, so I've wishlisted those. Also I have Twilight Princess, which is one of the few Zeldas I haven't completed before. I guess now would be as good a time as any to play it.

It was more or less a strategy year, hence a weak year. sob sob ;D
Huh, haven't played a single game from this list (did play the original Settlers 2, but 2006 is for the 10th anniversary, so doesn't count)... And looking through my list of games played, can't seem to have any from 2006, at least if the release dates on MobyGames are correct... And for Travian (which I just briefly poked at) it's not, since it's listed as 2006 there but a quick check reveals that that's when it was transferred to the company, and later in the year v3 was released, but the game itself initially released in 2004. It is likely that v3 was what I played, but that probably shouldn't really count, and either way barely poked at it a bit, until other players stormed in.
So, yep, 2006 is a blank gaming year for me at this point. Have Gothic 3 (not on GOG), Neverwinter Nights 2 and Oblivion, but as for playing them... Gothic 3 only after Gothic 2, which would mean getting back to it and finishing it. And Oblivion maybe, just maybe, only after Morrowind, which would mean getting back to it and finishing it, and not sure even then. NWN2, not sure. Finally finished all of NWN Diamond right at the end of 2020, but 2 doesn't seem to be among what I've seriously been considering starting since then.

ciemnogrodzianin: 2006!
Hello ciemnogrodzianin!

Thank you for the nostalgic video link! I could not help laughing at the end about the funny videogame presentation.

Unfortunately, I did not made enough progress in the games from my earlier selections. Actually, I could not play the games as much as I wanted to. Hence, I did not participated in multiple of the former Time Travel threads.
For the Year 2006, I could "cheat" a lot, since I played quite a couple of games from the list again during the course of the last two or three years... but I do not know if I will have sufficient time to write about them.

For me 2006 was a year of great hypes, but also of some big disappointments with respect to video games. I bought my last physical special collector's edition of a game during 2006, but also waited until I got hold on the international version of the same game, before I started playing it, actively. (Guess which game it was!)

Nonetheless, have fun everybody with (re)playing another batch of games from an interesting year!

Kind regards,
foxgog

2 is a big disapointment. It's starts okay but never comes close to finishing the story it started. 3 is really good.
Great, now I feel really motivated to play it. ;)

From the list of 2006, I've onely played The Blackwell Legacy (which is good, but still a little rough at the edges), GTA: Vice City Stories (never completed it) and Bully (which is still my favourite RockStar game).

The Blackwell games get much better as the story and characters develop more, also they're currently on offer if you don't have them.

I know this isn't too useful if you want to stick to the theme of the thread. In which case I'd highly recomend Oblivian. In terms of adventures Dreamfall came out in 2006 and Secret Files Tunguska, which is decent in a B movie kind of way. Broken Sword 4 came out that year too
Updated the OP with sign ups and Scratches (thanks MaxFulvus).

I share the sentiment that 2006 wasn't a particular stellar year for video games. Looking at the list, Gears of War is the one I played that is a highlight to me. Resistance: Fall of Man comes pretty close.

Half-Life 2: Episode One was good but too short.

Bully, Hitman: Blood Money and Tomb Raider: Legend were also pretty good. Enjoyed them a lot.

Call of Juarez, El Matador, The Godfather: The Game and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent were ok. Double Agent in particular is a broken piece on PC. Coming from Chaos Theory to this one was such a disappointment.
FlatOut 2 is -85% in the deal of the (72 hours long) day if somebody is interested in giving it a try.

Edit: oh, wait, I forgot, it's 72 hours during weekends, for the rest of a week it's 48 hours :P
