ciemnogrodzianin: It looks that the magic of time travel really works!
Today, thanks to mrkgnao, I've realized Toy Story is 1995 release! I watched the movie yesterday with my kids as a part of fun+cultural education :D
Nice....well except for being exposed to the Randy Newman music....you poor soul.
(I kid.....I like some of his music, including some from that film :))

ciemnogrodzianin: It was my wife's initiative. She didn't know about our travels. Perhaps I have to replace the locks at my workshop ;)
Well if even Biff could get past it, i'd say yeah...you should update your lock. ;)

ciemnogrodzianin: I've finished Full Throttle, but it wasn't easy :)
Some of the best things never are that easy, or so i've found.

avatar
ciemnogrodzianin: I remember this game for its amazing atmosphere. I've never finished it, lost somewhere in the dungeons, without internet and any idea how to progress at some point. I hope I'll be able to check it soon.
It is nice...though if you ever play it a tip: take notes(like where locked doors and other things are at)

avatar
ciemnogrodzianin: For graphics – yup, the game has issues :) There's some complicated history behind how it looks (and how opponents are displayed). But I think I remember quite impressive intro, not sure if my memories are correct, will see ;)
Yeah, you're right on that......the intro is nice. :)
(sidenote: thanks for the thanks in the other thread)

Ok, I started my time travel. I've finished two missions so far (Loose Cannon difficulty level).
Here go a few screenshots from the first mission...
Really fun game. If you don't mind the weird control scheme, it's worth playing it.

Perhaps I was imprecise. I really dislike how new adventures are often made for idiots. I always struggled to beat old point&click games, but I also liked the challenges. When I play e.g. Silence or The Pillars of The Earth – gameplay-wise these are something totally different than good old adventures and I don't like the new style.
However there's one aspect of old games I really hate – it's guessing some sequence and repeating in case of mistake. If it's fast-paced replay, like a quick and short sequences in Dragon's Lair – sure, it's fine, I can use brute force and simply keep trying ;) But when I need to watch even 2-minute-long sequence before the next try...
But, hey, this game is a good one! Generally I think it's great how the gameplay is diversified, even it caused some trouble for me. Even some original camera shots show great imagination of creators – not at all those classic point&click view.

I've checked and it looks it may be one of demanding old-school games – about 16h to finish. Probably twice more for me, if I avoid using walkthrough and keep taking a wrong turn ;)

I'm not using any walkthrough, so it will take me some time,I'm afraid (right now I'm a bit stuck, tbh, in the third mission) But if I'm lucky enough to find any secret by my own, I find it much more rewarding :)

Meanwhile, a few screenshots more. These ones from the second mission.

That it is.

Some tips from a fellow silencer: Be careful not to burn/etc the enemies or destroy chests(either with wpns or when things blw up near them), or you can't loot them later. :)

(also, there are floor tiles and hidden switches here and there that open some extra hidden areas as well)

Some PCs have pre printed messages with more important info, but some can be "used" a few times to get new messages like the ones in your one pic...fun times.

To help out my fellow time travelers:

I have a copy of Eradicator and a copy of Star Wars: Dark Forces available for my fellow travelers to choose from.

The first time traveler who replies first to this offer may pick either game, and I will send it their way post haste via temporal flux(PM). :)

Drastically improved my relay station in OpenTTD. The problem was that all trains were servicing at the same depot, causing a bottleneck. Now trains returning empty from their drop-off have an option of 3 depots to pass through on their way back to the relay station.

Having finished my journey back to 95 to play MechWarrior 2 (I thought I would complete one campaign in two days and the other in equal time, that was way off target) I have made the following observations.

Graphics: what do you'd expect for an early Windows fully 3D games but the draw distance is god awful to the extent it hampers gameplay (more on that later). The mechs do look cool in a retro way and the fact to can target and destroy individual bits and pieces is good. the games menus are also those nice FMV style menus some games did back then and are relevant to your chosen faction. Level designs are kinda basic though and mostly flat but with the poor draw distance this doe not help.

Sound: Has voice acting but is mostly medi sound and music so you'll either like it or you won't.

Gameplay: Right, can be extremely fun but have some glaring issue most due to the limitation of its era so some of these may seem a bit nit picky, but starting out controls. By default all controls are keyboard based, all looking, movement, weapons and other mech systems are all set to individual keys and after playing modern games non are where you would naturally expect them to be. seems they expected most players to be using a joy stick (as the key layouts for movement seem to quick replacements for one). Fighting becomes difficult as you most be moving around with some keys them jump to another set to aim the targeting recital around the screen to aim at enemies no doubt already firing at you with pinpoint accuracy. This is where the draw distance also is of no help, enemies can see you and accurately target you from bound the draw distance, you can also see them on radar but as you must target individual areas of their mechs to do any real damage its pretty unfair. You do gat used to all this as you play on however, you can set your mech to move automatically while you just aim and fire, but if you had a joy stick it seems it would have been a much more fun hands on experience. After a while you do get settled in and you can see whey its considered a classic shooter, lots of fast pace action, think on your feet and exotic locals allies and enemies to combat.

Overall 07/10 - Its better then average but time takes it's toll.

As for 1995 itself: Boring, forgettable and grey John Major is re-elected as UK PM. Funny drunk Boris Yeltsin refuses to get up and do anything after being told Russian is under nuclear attack guessing its just their early warning system is shit and making mistakes again, he is correct. Jacques Chirac becomes president of France, centuries of bitterant, hostility and rivalry with Britain continue unabated. 66 year old mercenary Bob Denard invades and overthrows the Comoros Islands government for the forth time because why not at his stage of life. And in the US The Million Man March takes place, 400,000 actually show up. But most unexpectedly some bunch of freaks brought enough copies of Cotten Eye Joe to keep it at no.1 for 3 weeks. Overall the year I give 04-10 , more to forget then probably remember. And the world continued where we are today (were things ever any better?)
I've put some additional info into OP:
☆ – for games played / declared to be played
★ – for games completed

I'm aware that finishing some of the games listed may be quite challenging (or even impossible; not sure if it's possible to actually finish sth like OpenTTD), but please consider this as a part of some statistics – just to count games played/completed. And perhaps some incentive for completionists to take "that last mission" to gain a full-star ;)

Let me know if I missed some important info in your posts.

As a traveller I've started my second visit in 1995 – trying "The Dig" this time. After Full Throttle I've realized it may be fun to take one more point&click :) The beginning is very promising and actually starts like a good movie.

You might want to add this legend to the OP as well.

When I tried playing that game, I thought so as well, but that first impression didn't last. Stopped pretty early, because I realized I would never be able to finish it without looking into a walkthrough all the time. Very abstract puzzles with few hints (at least that was my impression). Will be interested to read your thoughts on it.

Nice(the game has one of my favorite intros of all time). :)

Game note(semi quasi spoilers maybe): the game has more than one ending....here's to hoping you get the good one :)

Progress update: finished Full Throttle.....right until the after credits bits.
(hippity hippity hop...hop hop hop :D)

Also some pics from Crusader:

So last night I finally started my time travel journey with Star Wars: Dark Forces.

First thing I did was to try to get a more modern experience with this game. Coming from both F.E.A.R. games, I knew that playing this one would be a bit jarring. I thought of using DarkXL, but according to PCGamingWiki, the project is no longer in development and has been restarted with another name (The Force Engine), which is also in pre-release. Both of them contain several bugs and issues, so I though I'd be better off not using any and get a more close to the original experience.

So instead I used this guide by a fellow Gogger (AranhaRush).

I only had time to play the first mission, but with the modifications from that guide, it played great. I felt kind of dizzy though with how movement of the character, but again that must be because I came from playing F.E.A.R.

But overral I enjoyed it very much. Haven't played a Star Wars games in a long time, so it felt good. The voice acting is pretty good and the sound design, albeit old, it's still charming. The only issue so far is that the levels can be a bit confusing, but imo that's a problem with all of the games from that era and of the same genre (Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior, Blood).

The main goal is to beat the game now, of course, since I don't like quitting games. And I'm actually thinking of continue through with the Jedi Knight after it.

EDIT: I cannot seem to get the link for the PCGamingWiki page, regarding DarkXL to work properly within the text, so I leave it here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Dark_Forces#DarkXL

Jedi Knight is very good(also Outcast/etc).

Suggestion: save it maybe for when we "travel" to those years? ;)
