Given that Steam has just added a beta feature of making Windows-only games available on Linux using WINE wrapping via Proton, is it perhaps time to add something similar to GOG games without native Linux ports available?
Maybe, but most users can figure out how Wine goes if they're already using Linux, and it isn't a solve all for many games.

Some of them require some additional workarounds and others like Sims 2 are just bonkers to get running.
I'm sure it might be possible for them for games that at least work on WINE with wrappers available right here on the forum as well as the ./play.it website.
There are games already on GOG with a native Linux build elsewhere, or DOS games that would run perfectly on Linux with DOSBox, but GOG doesn't want to/cannot officially sell them for Linux because of legal reasons. Do you really see it likely that all of a sudden they'll start wrapping Windows games with WINE and supporting them for Linux?
Steam does it, everyone must follow suit.
Supposedly a great step forwards for Linux gaming but apart from getting rid of Windows I still can't see I have much to gain from going Linux as a gamer. There used to be performance improvements but these days it's more often less performance apparently.
How do you wrap a proton? :P

You wrap it in electrons.

GOG would only need to hire this guy:

So yeah, GOG games already have something like that... user-made.

When Microsoft eventually turns Windows into Windows Store-only (not overnight, but with little nudges), I think it is good there is an alternative to that where anyone can sell their games even on their own web site, if they so wish.

Gaben seems to agree with me, there is no other logical explanation why Valve has invested more and more into Linux gaming. The writing is on the wall, and Gaben can see it too.

It's not like GOG doesn't have Wine wrapped games. If I remember correctly, they usually say they can't make those versions just like that because of legal reasons.
But that would involve admitting that Steam did something that wasn't terrible and evil. Good luck convincing the GOG forums of that.

GOG had WINE wrapped games years before Steam, for example
Flatout
Flatout 2
Septerra Core
Enclave
and probably a few more, I haven't found a GOGmix though.

Adamhq's wine wrappers are superior though, I have never seen better ones.
I tried /play.it but it's harder to get to run and more of a file mess than just plain current WINE for some reason.

Is that related to Play On Linux, or some separate product?

Please post about this in the ./play.it thread (linked by muntdefems), we can’t fix issues if we don’t know about them ;)
