THQ Nordic continues with its steady gaming world domination campaign with the announcement that they have acquired the IP rights for the Expedition series. They also announced the development of a third installment:

The first two games of the series, Expeditions: Conquistador and Expeditions: Viking, are for sale on GOG. Considering THQ Nordic has a tradition of releasing their games here, we can expect to see this game in the future.
On a side note - according to THQ Nordic's latest business report they currently have 55(!) projects in the pipeline, with 35(!) not even announced yet.
Next up: THQ Nordic takes over EA, acquires rights for Star Wars, Mass Effect etc.

...one can dream, right? ;)
That's not all they bought. They've bought devs Bugbear (FlatOut, Wreckfest) and Coffee Stain Studios earlier this week.

WOW! that is one big expansion into the games market.
I hope they don't bite more that they can chew. They have been very "aggressive" on the market lately. I hope everything goes well for them, as they are among the very few to care about DRM-free games.

Cool, I just hope they will be successful with all their projects, I love how friendly they are towards GOG and DRM-free.

My fears too. I wish them well and am very glad to hear "the good guys" expand. But in the end you need a certain height to get seriously injured from the fall.
I imagine this news is going to be well received here because THQ Nordic are strong allies of GOG and don't seem to be overly meddlesome in the affairs of the developers under them or partnered with them. They're one of the few publishers financing diverse DRM-free games with mid-tier budgets. RPGs, strategy, sims, point & click adventures, real-time tactics, action-adventure, platformers - they've got a finger in every pie while the other publishers crank out a deluge of open world games.
If they picked up the rights to Alpha Protocol and No One Lives Forever, that would make me happy.
Those two games would be highly highly unlikely since Microsoft bought over Obsidian Entertainment and 20th Century Fox, Activision and Warner Bros all own part of NOLF https://kotaku.com/the-sad-story-behind-a-dead-pc-game-that-cant-come-back-1688358811

But it would be an awesome Christmas present ;)

I think Sega owns the rights to Alpha Protocol, as I have seen hints from Obsidian in the past but they always told people Sega had the final say.
THQ Nordic are awesome! They are cosy with GOG and often release their games on here, showing their customer friendly stance. There isn't a more fantastic publisher one could ask for!

Yup this - though I wish them all the luck in the world (LOVE that they've been very open about their games releasing here, especially the AAA stuff coming out - and they always release their "old" stuff with sweet discounts).

I know I try and do my part - I'll snap up any of their games I'm mildly interested in early. And I CAN'T WAIT for Fade to Silence to show up - I'll get that one straight off too. Mostly because it looks stellar, but also to do my part to support THQ...

... even though Thom has been strategically ignoring me whenever I ask for a release date ;)

And more on topic - I hope the third Expeditions is more in line with the first. I very much enjoyed Viking - especially the fact that I really felt like I was building up a power base, moving from a small raiding party to a legit regional power. But it certainly seemed to be more of a throwback '00s Western RPG (not that that's a "bad thing, mind you!). And not quite what the first game was. I want more of the first next go around.
Nordic is like the champion of AA games, and guess what, I actually like that approach. I wish them luck too.
