locusSol: Cautiously optimistic would be my take. This being Nintendo the hardware quality will be okay, the main issue will be ease of developing for the platform and third party support.
Judging by the Unity symbol on the list of collaborators I presume they'll do the same thing they've done with Wii U and 3DS. If you can just port a Unity game straight to it than developing won't be too difficult.
Particularly if they have dropped all the gimmicks (which I think would be a shame) as you then don't even have to consider shoehorning in touch screen or motion controls to your port.

Also cautiously optimistic. Neat concept, but I'd want a hands-on the controls to see if they're sufficiently ergonomic for me. And the launch games. No point to a good idea if there's nothing to implement/ play with.
And a lot of the video made me cringe, from the basketball scene to the roof party. (!)

I mentioned this yesterday in another thread, but to reiterate here I think Nintendo is making a mistake in assuming that gamers are the same type of gamers at home as they are on the go. In short, and speaking for myself, I play games either at my PC or on my couch, when I have time blocked off to do so. On the other hand, when I'm on the go, I'm in a totally different mindset and usually too distracted to be gaming. I own a DS, but never take it to the park with my dog -- it's usually reserved purely for a last-resort boredom remedy on vacations.

If Nintendo was all over the place with the unfocused Wii U, they won't be in any better shape with the Switch. I can imagine players getting frustrated with various modes and little pieces to manage.

I hate the people with their smartphones glued to their hands and I won't ever alienate my friends by carrying a Switch around. Playing Skyrim while I take a dump however... interesting. And trains, something about trains.

I'm optimistic. I'm wondering where the processing power comes from though. The screen docks into the dock, but can play games independently, so is the processor in the screen then? The dock seems quite thick though, so will there be two processors then? Then cost will be more I'd imagine. The screen / portable version must be powered by some battery, as must be the controllers, but what? Finally, will they actually do a proper fair-price release in my country?

I bought the disc version of the SteamWorld Collection for Wii U a few weeks ago - I already had Dig for the PC and it still suffers from the same problems of mind-numbing repetition, but Heist is a blast. One of the best turn-based strategy games I've seen, although out of the two, Dig makes the better use of the second screen.

Funnily enough, because I don't browse Steam much, I didn't even realise that Heist was out.

Everything is in the tablet. The docking station is basically just a charger and an HDMI interface.

That doesn't mean that there aren't necessarily benefits to having it on the TV. It's possible that the system increases clock speed and CUDA core usage whenever it's connected to the dock. Those huge vents at the top of the tablet have to be for something and I don't anticipate the device running that hot while it's running on battery.

This is a traditional game console. The guy was playing Skyrim with the pro controller (the same is true with Zelda). It is pretty clear that this is a traditional console system that has the power to play modern games and uses a standard/pro controls.

the difference being it can also be taken with you to go and play anywhere. No motion control, no 3D screen, no touch screen, no gyroscopic(at least not shown or revealed yet).

Straight pro controller for all games on a traditional powerful console.

With the dock, it might out class the Wii U; but that's not saying much.

Hopefully not as that was one of the main things going for the older consoles.

Magic_Of_Light: Its more gimmicky nintendo. Instead of making a solid console with great games, just throw out lots of gimmicks. I dont see nintendo lasting much longer. I know of 0 people who have a wii. I think most people forget they actually have a console still.
Aside from the detachable controllers, I'm not even bloody sure what the "gimmick" of the system is that Nintendo felt the need to keep under wraps for over a year, out of fear of being "copied". I don't exactly see Sony nor Microsoft leaping eagerly to rip off "bulky nonportable tablet thing" or "It's a controller that you can detach" or "it docks into this awkward looking charger/TV output dock".

Now I realize we're going to get nothing on the Switch until next year, but I want to know what Nintendo was really thinking to be the secret sauce that everyone would want.
