With my birthday looming on the horizon i thought it would be a nice gesture to throw a little give away into the equation of the waves and tides of the gog general discussion forum. I noticed this a couple of times before, giveaways during birthdays, and this in turn inspired me to think about doing a similar action myself when it was my time, for a treat. ( not to mention as a thank you for enduring my presence )

Now my peasant income does not allow for outrageous spendings so i can only afford to make one person happy but... i was feeling like granting the lucky individual a choice between some of the triple A titles i myself would/have/are enjoying myself. Titles such as Cyberpunk, Age of Wonders Planetfall, Baldurs Gate, Distant Worlds - Universe, and maybe even a Steam game since i was, are sometimes a vivid Total War player

Current discussions and responses to some of my posts made me keenly aware of the poor state a lot of individuals find themselves in. Do you think i should add a selection of games playable on a potato too ? Personally i would choose not to but, since this is a general discussion forum i'm curious about thoughts of others.

Also, i would have this giveaway accompanied with some restrictions such as, active ( meaning i would know your name/ have seen your name moving around at least a couple of times ) at least active from 2015, only reps between -500 and +5000 would be valid ;-), only males allowed ;-) ;-) and maybe a couple more but i don't think i'm willing to add a lot of restrictions.

Of course these restrictions are open for debate, that is, if you have an opinion
My two cents, based on my experience with giveaways: I found it best to set a cap on the price I was willing to spend for the prize, but let the winner pick his own. In that way you don't have to overthink stuff like "well what about people that have lower end hardware". The winner will know what he can play on the hardware he has and choose accordingly.

No opinion on the restrictions, as it's your rodeo, not mine :).

Happy upcoming birthday btw, in case I forget to catch up on the actual giveaway :P.

Well thanks!

Your suggestion did cross my mind once or twice already , it would certainly be one of the more fairer solutions.

I won't participate, but I congratulate you for the attitude and humbleness specifically because I deduce the line of thoughts that made you decide to do this (as I was there, probably, if my deduction is right.)
And yes, please include low-end games. :)

Happy birthday to you, sir, or lady, and, good luck to the participants!!!

Thank you,

With both responses in mind i feel that the addition of certain combinations might be just as worthwhile

for example combining Fantasy General and Warhammer 40k Armageddon in one package

or carmageddon and flatout and art of rally
There's generally two ways these are done: Either pick a cost limit based on what you feel you want to give and can handle without overexerting yourself, or buy a game or different games you like and then the winner(s) can pick from this list (often the left-overs get thrown to the GOG community giveaway, run by finkleroy).

It's best to do the first option, unless you want to create something more than a simple giveaway and/or plan to have several winners.

And yes, you are the giveaway host (or should I say thread-master) and you stand free to choose what ever limits/restrictions you want on or during the giveaway.

I'd say treat your IRL friends / family to some attention / love / event opposed to randos on the internet... but its your money.
Folks above have already mentioned it: an upper limit, then freedom to choose seems to work fine. On the other hand, offering specific games has the advantage of:

-Getting the codes in sales for less.
- Giving specific games some visibility. Worth it for underdogs that you believe can provide fun to others, if only they had the chance to play them.

A possibility, if you wish so, would be to have a double event. One game to choose, and then one or more underdogs (or simply good old games) as complementary prizes. So that more people would have the chance to get a game.
