I would say this here, since this is the closest thing to a comment box this website has.

In 2013, The CRPG Addict write about the first 1989 Rance game as, quite simply, a game about rape as a core game mechanic. I've watched more than enough of the game on Youtube LPs to agree with him, and I'm more than a little disturbed it's being sold on Gog.com

Some select quotes from his review

"Literally every major plot point in the game involves a sexual assault of some sort"

"I do not, in contrast, think that you could enjoy Rance without enjoying the idea of raping women. There is, after all, no internal reason for rape in a game. Enemies you kill in games are obstacles to overcome; items you steal are steps towards wealth and power. But there is nothing that you can accomplish, no puzzle that you can solve, no quest that you can achieve through rape that you could not also achieve through not raping.

And Rance makes no secret about expecting the player to enjoy the rapes. It graphically describes them. It provides anguished, pleading dialogue for the victims. What disturbs me more than the idea that someone made such a game is that there must be players who enjoy it--who molest and sodomize their way through the quest with smiles on their faces.

Rance's own reactions and statements are tailored to such players..."

I am thinking not even the $5 I'm considering throwing at the game that's 90-ish% off on sale is worth patronizing the same website that is selling this game. Seriously, I lost my appetite, but we'll see if that lasts. I hope it's taken down.
None of the Rance games appear to be their 1989 original though.

Though I will say, this character here does tick some alarm bells. Dollars to doughnuts she's claiming to be at least 1000 years old.
It's just a dumb game and I'm sure the only reason they're on GOG is to poach customers that want it DRM-free. And are willing to spend $30.

If a game has a mechanic or theme that you don't like, then don't buy it or play it. It's that simple. I've never played the Rance games but I'm not going to give a website shit for selling them or judge someone for playing them.
The same goes for every eroge that uses rape, regardless of who commits it. And I must say that's a lot of eroge.

I 100% agree.
'ere we go again...

I totally agree, players who molest their victims in video games with smiles is disturbing. Why can't they at least hide their emotions in your imagination, right?

I'm also deeply concerned about animal rights in games and lots of human killings including innocent people. This has to be stopped, at least let other digital stores sell those bad games but not GOG.

You watched more than enough of it to make sure you were thoroughly offended or... "for science"? I don't care for sex in videogames either but I'm not going to try to tell people what they can and can't buy. If you censor that then what's next? Violence would be next. All we'd have left are educational games.

Disney+ streams the new Star Wars films as well.

It's disgusting what trash gets pushed on people these days.

I liked the Mandalorian show with Gina Carano actress, she was perfect for her role. Too bad that freedom of speech is just another myth.

I always found it weird that people are fine with massacres, murder, gore/gibbing even genocide-like killings in videogames, but depictions of rape are somehow worse? Just to be clear, neither are remotely acceptable in real life, but videogames aren't real life, now are they?

If people have a problem/concern with rape being a "turn-on" for others, then I might understand that point at least. But even so, it's a rather common sexual fantasy, according to some sources at least. If you want a dark comedy take on that, watch the movie "The Little Death" :P.
I know of Rance games, I think it became Alicesoft's main series over the years. Don't remember ever playing any of them, but I know that they are quite long games with tons of content typical for the jrpg genre. I kinda want to try one of these, maybe a more standalone title or spin-off - as I'm not really familiar with the story/setting etc, so jumping straight in to middle of the series is a bit daunting. Any advice which one is kind of a shorter, self-contained title?
Anyway, I did play Knights of Xentar by ELF back in the day though. Maybe there are some similarities with these games. I don't mind Rance games themselves being on Gog or other platforms at all though.

If anything, I would rather see less of those weird p0rn VNs with those prerendered 3D characters that mostly all look the same. They look similar to the game "Being a dik", the visuals always give it away. For me they offer very little artistic value and I swear there is at least one such easy cashgrab copycat released on Steam every week. Maybe they have awesome writing, story and character-building but I just can't get past the generic tasteless vibe to downright uncanny valley effect.

But then again I can ignore those weird VNs, which is precisely what I do. Maybe you can ignore these eroge jrpgs too, if they are not your thing.

Good. People should decide for themselves what they choose to buy. Stores should sell.

Personally it's the fact that there are peoples who think that because a website dares to sale a game with mechanics, theme, character they don't like then it needs to be taken down that disturbs me more than the idea that someone made such a game.

I don't think that running over pedestrians for fun or beating somebody to death to steal their car is a good thing in real life, yet I enjoy a lot going it in GTA (and even in Cyberpunk for the former) and can even do it with a smile on my face. That's what the majority of normal adults are able to do, differentiate between fantasy/fiction and reality, and if you cannot then that's on you.
