Now hang on a minute, if the person is worth looking at I'm sure you wouldn't look away so that theory is crap.

Titanium: You know what you did. It's justice.

(what did you do?)
He posted a thread about devotion...mods removed it, as they felt there were too many thread on the topic(there were like 4 at the time). Micro made a new one, and he got suspended.

BlueMooner: Since gog is CLEARLY never going to update this forum, I've long felt that gamers would best be served by another forum altogether. An alt-gog forum that has all the "modern" features forums need, like spoiler tags, image posting, the option to mute offensive posters, etc.

There would be off-topic forums, game help forums (spoiler and non-spoiler), tech help to get games running, mod discussion... the works. Y'know, the basic things every other forum in existence has. Gog could then devote more(?) attention to the gamesite itself.

Well said

AB2012: During the last overhaul the News section got moved from the top of the main page to the bottom. Three years on, and I'm still trying to figure that one out... ;-)
Well at a guess, I would say they want you to see all the games being advertised before you read the News, which in a Freudian twist is mostly about the games you saw a lot of on the way to the News.

I know on my system and browser, that the News section is the slowest to appear, so I tend to check the game adverts out while waiting. Their cunning plan no doubt.

I imagine it makes sense if your focus is more on selling games rather than providing news ... news being a secondary consideration.

There was one. No idea if it's still active.

Grargar: GOG and overhaul are not things to utter lightly in the same sentence.
No kidding...

Truth007: I wouldn't say outdated unless you mean the forums.
I do mean the forms, but the way the game are downloaded is also archaic. Perhaps a proprietary torrent client or protocol for downloading your favorite games.

Um, NO thank you. (And they already have a client, unfortunately.)

They have a client, but it doesn't use torrent protocol so it's not really any faster than downloading from the site.

Archaic in what sense? Galaxy is very much like all the other current clients out there, if less DRM oriented, and using browser links is a very standard, not archaic thing ... not showing MD5 checksum values is a bit archaic though.

While torrents would no doubt make some happy, I don't care for them personally and certainly wouldn't want it to be the only option.

All we want really, for the many who don't care for the offerings (and bloat) of Galaxy, is a simple resumable downloader with file integrity checking ... like the old GOG Downloader we used to have. A few other minor features, like Download ALL and Download Updates would also be nice additions.

P.S. But I am fairly sure, it is down to GOG wanting to limit connections ... else they would need to provide more servers ... perhaps something they don't feel they can really afford.

Galaxy is just a glorified torrent client Galaxy *IS* the old GOG downloader with a different User interface!
They just gave the Downloader a New UI and you lot are all up in arms over an old shitty very broken downloader

The Downloader NEVER worked for me!

McMicroDonalds: I hope someone sees this and updates this ancient system.
This old forum is the MOST stable part of GOG, so I really do not want them update it.

Yeah pretty much, I would rather not use a social client that hooks into my installed game to work. I just want to download games.

That's why a torrent protocol would be very good. Multiple users who own the same game could reduce the bandwidth for GOG and allow for faster downloading.

There's been a lot of problems with bots lately, they should do something about that.

Why so you can't troll derep people because you know newer forum software will provide either names or no - button whatsoever!

McMicroDonalds: I've complained about being suspended, and I'm still unhappy about it. Most of all though I think the biggest problem (aside from current events) is just how out of date this whole website is.

GOG you need to fix this site.
Welcome to GOG. There have been wishes for improvements in the forum for many, many years. Easy improvements. But GOG doesn't often try to implement any. Perhaps for the better. Because each time the forum software is 'improved' something breaks.

But yes, more transparency from GOG would be great. Unfortunately, they have been developing in the opposite direction for some years now. Long ago they were famous for openly, transparently communicating with their user-base. But as they grew, less and less communication was allowed. Now the blues seem to be mostly muzzled concerning all topics that might be inconvenient or controvesial.

Perhaps the recent drama will shake things up a bit.
