Installing mods for GoG games will soon be easier than ever, as the DRM-free digital distribution platform is getting its own Workshop-like experience. There's no hard release date for the feature and it's probably in the very early stages of implementation, but at some point in the future, GoG will have the ability to install mods for games directly from its website and Galaxy client app.

Where a decade ago, getting mods from a reputable source was hard, today, it's much easier. Megagames itself has an expansive selection of mods you can download, and there are a few other decent sites out there too. Steam Workshop though, turned the whole practice on its head, by making mods available within the Steam client. That's what GoG is going to do.

“There is plenty of stuff we have planned right now," CD Projekt Red managing director, Piotr Karwowski, said in a chat with Eurogamer. "The thing is, we love to announce those things when we’re ready to show them! Not before. Even with mod support, which I know will come at some point, it’s probably something I shouldn’t have said, but (now) it’s out there and it doesn’t matter.”

It's possible that instead of building its own platform though, GoG may integrate with an existing mod platform like ModsNexus, which it has an existing relationship with. As it stands, GoG will occasionally recommend mods on that site and link users through to it.
