Poor guy had to have both legs amputated and may lose both arms from spider bite, feel so sorry for him: There's some seriously nasty bugs around, I got stung by this massive ant once and my whole arm went numb for a few hours.

My dog was recently bitten by a bug, don't know what, and he went into anaphylactic shock and almost died, so now I carry an Epipen with me when I take him for walks.

Everything here wants to kill you.

Australia didn't let me down.

Australia is fine. I've lived here for decades and only nearly been killed by wildlife 7 times.

Look at the muscles on this red kangaroo, those things can rip you apart:

Not to mention getting eaten by crocodiles, sharks, poisonous snakes and spiders everywhere, kangaroos kickin your ass. Luckly like, Koala's are fine, they're chilled. They're stoned on gum tree leaves I think, probably stressed out about everything else.

They piss on you.

The only scary encounter I've ever had with wildlife in aus is once I thought I saw a snake (just the head) in the bushes in my backyard. It was actually a blue-tongue lizard (which are pretty much harmless).

It's a daily event being attacked by something or another,even not looking when you walk across the road and I take it in a stride.

So you've never actually seen a snake? Damn, when I was a kid I reckon I saw one every couple of months at least. We definitely had half a dozen in our back yard over the years.

I am assuming you haven't spent much time in northern Australia either?

Yeah, in my 25 years in Oz I've never really been attacked by any wildlife, never seen a live snake outside of a zoo, saw plenty of Redbacks and other spiders though. The only dangerous wildlife I encountered were the two kangaroos that I hit when they ran out in front of my car in one evening going along the Coorong in SA, that was definitely scary and fucked up.

I've seen a snake before, but at a nature reserve/zoo type place where they had a whole bunch of snakes in an enclosure. I thought the blue-tongue was a snake because I could only see it's head (not the legs). I'm a Melbournian, but I've been to NSW, SA and Tas, but never Queensland or NT I'm afraid.

That's the good thing about snakes, you almost never see them and they don't really bother people.

Snakes will always try to escape or hide, the people that get bitten are either unlucky or idiots that harass them.

I have a pet red-bellied black snake that I caught, her name is Medusa and she loves eating frogs and pinky rats.

And it's the bugs that will get you, not snakes.

I hate redback spiders, my shed is full of them. Yes, beware the drop bears.

I can tell you're a seasoned visitor to our country.

To deter drop bears, you can either smear Vegemite under your armpits or put urine on your hair.

I prefer urine as it smells nicer.

The story is more about what can happen when you put off seeing a doctor.

But the suggestion it could be a redback spider is rubbish, so called experts can be stupid sometimes.... it was definitely a white tailed spider.

Nothing wrong with Australia, when i was an 8 year old kid growing up in the bush, i used to go off on my own hunting snakes, lizards and yabbies down by the river.... i was just like a minni Steve Irwin! lol... caught two copper head snakes in my cubby house and kept them as pets in a fishtank, 'no worries mate' all good down under.

Edit: if my parents only knew half the things i got up to as a kid..... ohhhhh boy!!! hahahaha
