I used to play a game called Rival Realms - very obscure and very old, but a fantastic game nonetheless.

I highly doubt it will ever be on GOG, but I would LOVE to play it again. The trouble is, there is a weird bug on modern Windows whereby units are no longer able to rest to regain their health. A trivial, but game-breaking, bug.

On the off-chance, has anyone else even heard of this game?

On even more of an off-chance, would anyone have a clue about how to fix this issue? I've tried everything I can think of short of decompiling the game and editing the source...

Thanks,
Danjb
You can vote for it on its Community Wishlist entry. It only has 36 votes as of now, but it's better than nothing, I guess?

Voting on the Community Wishlist isn't a surefire way to bring games to GOG, but at least it shows GOG and the publishers/rights owners of the games that there is interest in a specific game.

By the description, seems like some kind of Warcraft 2 clone, with a broken AI?

Yeah I like classic RTS games so I certainly would like to try it, even if it has flaws.
I think the game might be somewhere in the Interplay vaults. I have no idea though if someone actively looked for it :)
Looks kind WarCraft 2-ish, which can only be a good thing IMO.

Voted!

Yeah, the game has often been compared to Warcraft 2, but it has a lot of really neat features, like being able to save troops at the end of a level and hire them again for subsequent levels, resulting in heroes that become steadily more powerful throughout the campaign. Not sure if WC2 has anything like this as I never played it myself...
Warcraft 2 was a great game, but warcraft 3 was a frustration - the main irritation for me was not having any way of reliably defending my base, its just set up so you cannot do it, so annoying.
That game might be here some day. It was made by a subsidiary of Titus Interactive, which has two games sold here. It's a bit of a long shot considering how obscure it is, though.

Looking at the screenshots the game looks like Warcraft 2: Isometric Edition. They aren't plagiarizing but it looks like they did copy shamelessly. There's a building that looks a lot like the griffin aviary.

Thanks, that's good to know! You're right about the griffin aviary, I hadn't noticed that before.

What modern Windows is it broken on? 7+?

If so, have you tried running it on a Virtual XP machine?
Not sure about XP, it's certainly broken on 7+ though.

I have had some luck with a Windows 98 virtual machine in the past, but I'd love to find a way to "fix" the game so that it'll run natively. I guess beggars can't be choosers, though :)
