On Steam people will immediately start acting hostile when you criticise their beloved game.

For instance a guy started insulting me when i said i was disappointed the game didn't have a certain feature. He told me it was to be toggled in the settings, which it was, and that i was stupid for not noticing it. I told him that i had only 2 hours to refund it so obviously i wasn't paying attention to settings

Compared to that cesspool this forum is much nicer. People are friendly and cooperative. I appreciate it. There are of course exceptions but not many

Yup. Steam and Reddit are incredibly vitriolic. Reddit subforums have rules on the side. Most of these rules has text begging you not to be an ass (not like that stops anyone). Some Facebook groups are filled with jerks too. There was one I used to be a part of. I asked if an achievement was required for a certain multiplayer portion of the game. This one dude got pretty pissed that I didn't know that. You'd think I insulted his mother with my question. It's not the only incident with this particular group. Shortly before I left the mods posted rules against being a jerk. I wonder if it changed anything. GoG and its patrons have been very good to me. Keep it up!

Yeah Steam's forums can be very toxic sometimes. I had a mixed bag with them. I had talked to nice people sometimes and other times I have talked to people who were toxic. One good thing about the Steam forums is that you can report users posts and post an explanation on what they did. Gog on the other hand you can only report posts as spam and nothing else However GOG for me has had any toxic people any kind. However it depends on the person because every person is different.
Probably just due to being a bit more obscure. On both sites I have seen people unhappy with a game linger for months at a time, constantly trolling its dedicated forums with nothing better to do. Only seems to happen with larger releases like Cyberpunk here as to where no game is safe from an angry gamer's wrath on steam.

Yeah, Steam has always had a very fanboy-ish clique mentality where if you criticize a game you are making a personal attack on anyone who likes said game.

Indeed. The GOG community is pretty cool imo, overall. When I first joined you could discuss pretty much anything under the sun; it was arguably the coolest gaming forum on the internet.

Things have changed to a degree now and the mods are stricter. Reckon that is the case everywhere these days.

As much as GOG gets criticised for not being able to edit game reviews, etc, one thing they did get right is not allowing review commenting (leaving comments on others reviews), which on Steam is 95% "How dare you dislike what I like" rather than anything intelligent.
That's not really my experience anymore, tbh. The forums on Steam and Reddit have a bad reputation around here, but so far I wasn't able to confirm it. I guess it's hit or miss depending on the games in question, but the people on the subforums I've checked out on Steam and Reddit were just as helpful as the people on GOG, or even more so, because most subforums on GOG are pretty inactive, and General Discussions has quite a bit of negativity, too.
The problem is that Steam has become such a huge platform that almost anyone who games on PC has an account there and most even use it exclusively and are completely oblivious to other alternatives. There's just not a sense of a real community there because there are millions of users. The one thing I like about the community here is that if something is wrong everyone is very vocal about it. On Steam? Most people don't care. I still remember the update to the library UI they released almost a year and a half back. A lot of people complained that it uses much more resources and it affects the games' performance but did that change anything? No. Not to speak of the know-it-alls according to whom if you have a PC with less than 16GB of RAM you have no business playing games or even using Steam and should upgrade immediately. Honestly, it's not a bad platform but it has become so bloated over the years with unnecessary features that it's like a social media for gaming.
I wouldn't brag too much. This forum has its poison and they're out there. Like GOG or be verbally abused for months.
Last time I looked in the Steam forums, half of them were still struggling to mentally get over that "OMG. Dis guy asked where he could BUY a DRM-Free game. He must be a pirate!" and "y u not lke Denuvo?" phase... There are a few intelligent people there, but the fact many can't use mods without a prevailing sense of entitlement that everything has to come through / be locked to Steam has very definitely not been a good thing for PC gaming.

never seen anyone abused the whole time ive been using these forums. YES you do get a ton of trolls. YES you get a low of downvote/reps if someone doesnt agree with a comment (some people just downvote for no reason imho)..but abuse? not seen that. yet.
Not many anime avatars around here (wonder why though?), that explains it.

Yea Steam forums are still rife with people misinformed about DRM. As well as people clinging on to the idea that integrated graphics = shit tier. To be fair they weren't ever amazing, but I think since a couple years ago they have been much better. My laptop's HD 520 did the job.

TBF though playing on less than 16 GB of RAM is kind of a handicap. I have 16 GB of RAM with 2133 MhZ and i can't imagine going lower than that
