PookaMustard: So is all DRM. I was lucky I had another Dosbox game somehow, probably Beneath a Steel Sky or Teenagent. Damn, I want to focus more on the former instead of doing other stuff.
avatar
jamyskis: Well, to be fair, it's not like you actually NEED another DOSBox game to copy it over. You can simply download a vanilla DOSBox installation from the official DOSBox website, or you can download a frontend like D-Fend Reloaded and import the game directory directly.

By the way, in case you're not aware of it, I can strongly recommend D-Fend Reloaded if you play a lot of DOS games other than the ones here on GOG.
Yes, you can also use a pure Dosbox installation, but the method I had at the time was to copy over a Dosbox executable from another game, because back then I lived in a dreaded five months without internet. Plus, I don't really need something to run DOS games. What I need is something to run games like Captain Claw in the most optimal speed on something like Windows 10. Back when I tried it on Windows 8.1, it was terribly slow, and my PC would sure as hell run it on a Sonic the Hedgehog-esque speed if only the system was older.

darthspudius: So why bother replying? Fuck off and get a life. Twit.
The whole point of spending time in a general discussion forum is to share your thoughts with other people. Something Crosmando is doing. WTF is wrong with you lately? Just because your life sucks, doesn't mean you should rage against people who have said nothing against you.
avatar
Crosmando: Maybe because of the twit trying to shill for EA on the forums. Explain to me how this thread is anything other than advertisement.
avatar
jamyskis: That would be Elenarie. The OP's just pointing out that Theme Hospital is free on Origin.

Honestly, you're making yourself look like more of a dickhead than usual with your conspiracy theories.
The guy points out a fact that does not attack you in anyway while at the same time, promoting nothing that could be considered immoral by normal standards and you call him a "dickhead"? Why?

Crosmando: What conspiracy theory, it's not "free" unless EA are offering the game in some offline installer straight from a website. It's a honeypot to get more people to install their DRM platform.
Definitely a conspiracy but not a theory. So I agree with you. EA is just trying to suck more people into using their shit. And Origin is shit. Origin makes Steam look good. It would be silly to expect anything less from EA.

Use DXWnd. In the specific case of Captain Claw, create a profile pointing to the Claw executable (don't forget to run DXWnd with admin rights or the hook won't work), deactivate "Run in Window" under the Main tab, set DirectX7 and Primary Surface under the DirectX tab. Voilà. Silky smoothness.

Remember that you need DXWnd running when you launch the game.

DXWnd solves a lot of DirectDraw-related problems of this kind under Win8 and Win10, but you will need to fiddle with the settings - there is sadly no one-size-fits-all solution.

Sarisio: It comes with Origin, so it isn't free... I'd even say that Origin is a huge price to pay to play video games.
It is like being in a relationship with someone who has a lot of baggage. Everything has a price.

GR00T: I don't think he qualifies as a shill just because he's pointing out that a game is offered at no charge on a platform that some people may be comfortable using (or already using). I have Origin installed and haven't suffered any ill effects.
I have Origin installed too and it has not affected my PC in a negative way. But it still sucks.

Yeah, you show him! How dare OP come here, trying to tell everyone about a free old game they might want? Stupid shills!

Was it worth it to sell your soul to Satan, OP? Satan, who is the devil, also known as Electronic Arts CEO, Andrew Wilson?

Once you install EA Origin, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

Wrong. I claimed the free Plants vs zombies before, plus the red alert 2 and i still uninstalled it and let it rot. Mostly because even on origin, they have the exact same issues with their ancient, vanilla release and incompatibility with modern systems. That is why gog MUST bring them.

One DRM platform to rule them all,
One DRM platform to find them,
One DRM platorm to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I use it for 'free' games and for a handful of games I had to tie to the client, but that doesn't mean I like it. But the rumors of Origin eating babies and stealing your grandma's jewelry are somewhat overstated.

Origin is also needed if you are a fan of the Mass Effect series and Dragon Age series.
