Microsoft tries too hard to push Windows 10 and XBOX ONE (both not for me for sure) on the market and old systems seem to derange the pattern.
I own an XBOX 360 (Jasper). It works fine, but I won't be able to replace it, if it ever breaks.

I remember the so-called "towel trick" to get the 360 working again, but I didn't actually do that.
Mine was out of warranty, but I didn't want to contain all the heat in the case, so I used a couple of sticks to stop the fans, until it overheated, and then let it cool down again for a few hours.
As far as I was concerned, it was broken, so I wasn't really going to harm it any further.
Worked fine after that! :-)

Had a good run overall, and I had a blast with a few games here and there. Still need to get a few games that I've missed out on.

Not defending the 360's legendarily poor reliability for much of this past generation, but you're comparing a modern system with more than a few moving parts with an old cartridge-based system with few/no moving parts - one is of course going to be more reliable than the other just by nature.

It's true that motherboards before Jasper were plagued by the RRoD. There were extreme rates of failure.
Correct me if I'm wrong but since Jasper I think the problem has been solved. That means that rates of failure have been kept to the expected number for electronics.
Anyway, my XBOX 360 was bought in 2010, about a month before the slim edition was announced and it still works.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the stock will last long.
Are you sure about this 84 million number?
It seems too high. I mean I was expecting that the production has been slowed down since XBOX ONE's release.
EDIT: Fixed some typos.
and that was 2 years ago so i wouldnt be surprised if the 360's are skirting 90 million by now
and the sega cd
playstation
and sega saturn are each well over 20 years old i have a 19 year old ps 1
and a 22 year old sega saturn both still work fine
microsoft ironed out the mistakes with the jasper motherboard and since the slim no xbox 360 actually fried itself anymore
with 84 million 360's around
and probably more then 60 million of those in good working order the machine will be around on the used market for years to come
its only now that the nes is becoming somewhat scarce

And just think, we're now in the early days of culture looking back nostalgically to the age of the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

I am attracted to 360 Stingray. If only it had the same amount of great exclusives like PS3 that were not Halo or Gears of Brown, and free online like PS3, I would get it. But I am only interested in Forza and not even sure if I would like it.
