dal: First Bioware with Veilgard and now that...

What have you done with Witcher?!.
There are no game industry gods here... There are only monsters.
What are you on about? This is nothing like Veilguard at all. My disappointment with continuing Ciri's story aside, the trailer looks perfectly WItcher. It could have come out six years ago to promote a new expansion to Witcher 3 and it would fit with that game's tone and aesthetic seamlessly.

Geralt's journey ended with Witcher 3, Ciri being the protagonist of this new saga was inevitable.
It's just a bad time to announce ANY game with a female lead at this particular juncture, with seemingly EVERY game now having a woman fill the role of protagonist, and deliberately de-feminised, unattractive ones at that.

Ciri also looking good is certainly a breath of fresh air in this regard.

This also confirms - for me at least - that CDPR wants to stick with the established character as the protagonist-formula for the mainline Witcher installments while mainline Cyberpunk will use the customisable user-created blank slate (with minimal established background) as the player character/protagonist going forward.

What a fucking scumbag
I will not be buying ANYTHING in relation to CDPR. I hope they rot and burn in hell for pushing this division and greed

Also looks to be still rooted in Slavic/European folklore and culture, which is a good sign too.

If they would have abandoned the setting for something else and ethnically/culturally more diverse it would stop being The Witcher, wouldn't it?

Wouldn't hold my breath just yet though, they still might take cues/do a Netflix and give the elves a new coat of paint, for example.

It's not going to be as good as the original trilogy anyway, with most of the old guard of developers gone.

Why did they drop the more complex but significantly more impressive and flexible Red Engine for a generic engine like UE5? This says to me that a lot of the old quality staff are gone and that the new hiring practices/criteria at CDPR have not exactly been focussed on merit.

I have very, very low expectations for this. I am expecting: Sloppy, lore contradicting, "current day" infused writing, poor engine optimization with lots of glitches, an emasculated Geralt and a Ciri who resembles Rings of Power's Galadriel.

I'd love to be wrong, but pattern recognition tells me to not get excited for anything new from this studio.

They had problems with the engine while working on Cyberpunk which resulted in cut content and the plethora of bugs that are patched out to this day. Yes, Witcher 3 was buggy too, but Cyberpunk was in a much worse state. Maybe their thought was that working with an engine with loads of documentation is better in the long run, that's just an uneducated guess though.

While I'm sure their own engine is well suited for a new Witcher game I don't think juggling between multiple engines is a good idea.

When Bethesda releases a game, it’s 'Why do you still use your old proprietary buggy engine!!!'

When CD Projekt announces a new game on a new engine, it’s 'Why don’t you use your old proprietary buggy engine!!!'

Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t, I suppose.

I believe the swap of engine is to make easier to release the game on several platforms at once, including but not limited to Gameboy Color, Sega Mega Drive and Xeshra's computer ( jk :) )

I don't think I'd want to play an entire game as Ciri. Also the books say Women can't be Witchers so this seems pretty untrue to the lore.

It depends on how you see it. Ciri never completed the Trial of the Grasses and therefore isn’t a witcher in the strictest sense. However, she underwent their training, mastered their combat skills, and was even given a silver sword by Geralt, a hallmark of recognition among witchers (and she snatched the wolf medalion from Vesemir's body). Her innate magical abilities also set her apart, arguably not needing the trial.

So, Ciri fights like a witcher, acts like a witcher, is treated as one by others, and most importantly, considers herself one. In the final book, as she steps into a new world alone, her last thought is: 'There must be something here a witcher can do.' By technicality, she is not a witcher, but in every meaningful sense, she embodies what it means to be one.

But in the trailer she has cat eyes.
