Ok, I looked up the technologies stg83 linked earlier http://www.anandtech.com/show/8546/nvidia-gameworks-more-effects-with-less-effort and it seems all of the technologies TW3 uses are made to work on UE3/ UE4. We can also see most; I think all; other Nvidia Gameworks games are UE based. Does this mean the Red Engine 3 is UE derivative? From the few recent UE games I've played; most have been very bad looking; and UE in general seems to lack multithread support. It would be great if CDPR could release some more details regarding the engine; and its optimization for PC. I recall Splinter Cell Blacklist had a particular problem with controller style weapon selection wheels and binding more than one(more than 2 actually) feature to the same key and lacking a rebind for it.

GameWorks features have been in games using a pretty wide variety of graphics engines, not just Unreal Engine 3 / 4.

A few examples:

AnvilNext: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Assassin's Creed: Unity
Chrome Engine 6: Dying Light
CryEngine 3: Crysis 3
CryEngine (4): Evolve
Dunia Engine 2: Far Cry 4
Fledge: Lords of the Fallen
Source: Titanfall
[???]: World of Warcraft (in-game HBAO+ support added in recent update)

Sell your laptop and buy new desktop. Problem solved. :p
Urgh! I have little interest in The Witcher's series (except for the adventure version), but it's safe to say I can forget about playing Cyberpunk 2077, should the game turns out to be what I like. My computer doesn't meet the min requirements well, and I just got my system late in 2013. :(

cyberpunk is set for release 2016 and probably won't make it till 2017.

4 year old system is outdated and needs replacing anyway. so don't worry. you will have power to play CP77

This confirms it, there's no way my current rig would handle this. Oh well, not like there's any hurry. I'll enjoy the bonus materials for now.
A FAQ has appeared on Gamepressure: http://www.gamepressure.com/e.asp?ID=73

What will be the screen resolution and frames per second (FPS) on the console version of The Witcher 3?

PlayStation 4 – 1080p, 30 FPS.
Xbox One – 900p, 30 FPS.

How many frames per second can you reach on PC using the recommended configuration (Intel Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 770 2 GB VRAM)?

According to an interview we did with Adam Badowski, the PC version will display 30 FPS as well. However, it is still too early to talk about specific graphics settings.

Is The Witcher 3 going to support Mantle on the launch day or later?

That is highly unlikely. The developers of The Witcher 3 work closely with Nvidia, whereas Mantle is a competitive technology developed by ATI.

Hmm. I'm still on the bench about whether to buy the PS4 or PC version. Personally, I'm not much of a stickler about frame rates. Sure, I do appreciate a good 60fps, but I don't throw a hypochondriac fit about 30fps.

This is worded though as of the PC version were *locked* at 30fps. Given that my PC is right on the threshold of the minimum specs, the question is whether the 30fps I get on the PC will look better than the 30fps I get on the PS4.

To be honest, this is the first time this has been a issue of consideration for me in a while, because most purchase decisions of mine are influenced by the fact that the PC disc version usually forces you to use Steam, UPlay or Origin, pushing me towards the PS4 version anyway.

Since I rarely buy PC games now, my system has become somewhat obsolete.

I think I'll wait until someone with comparable hardware to mine takes the plunge.

If you already own a PS4, you might as well get the PS4 version of the game. Will probably give you better quality than a PC at the minimum specs. You'll likely miss out on smaller updates, mods and tweaks though. But you could always switch back to the PC version somewhere down the line, once they release an "Enhanced" or "GotY" edition.

They said their target is to have 30fps with recommended settings, not that the game would be locked at 30fps on PC. (There was a link in the other thread to a preview where they manage to make it run at 60fps on ultra)

In the end it's more a question : do you want a version that will most likely work at 30fps with a fixed resolution (don't remember if the PS4 version is at 1080p or lower) or do you prefer a version that might requires you to lower your settings on your current hardware but will "improve" if you ever upgrade your hardware and where you will have access to mods.

A few months patience is needed. You will get better GPU in the end of 2015 for the same money as new gen is coming by both green and red teams. And Witcher 3 will be better optimised after some patches too.
In a parallel thread I copied news from DSOG, which told us about an article from German magazine that was able to play Witcher 3 at "almost constant" 60 FPS on a rig based on i7-4790k/16Gb RAM/GTX 980. That alone costs around 1000 bucks, enough for two PS4 and you'll get some portable with discount (or more games). So apparently there is no FPS-lock on PC version, other than "optimisation". Or lack thereof, hard to say. Certain news about lack of LOD/Draw Distance adjustable options made me wonder whether we'll have Crysis 1 situation and bloated system extortions and lack of sensible, if any, optimisation.
Maybe I'll swap my GTX 670 for something more suitable fir this game. Too bad the GTX 970 is not an option...
