Uh oh! I have an older i5 (I'm pretty sure it's still one with large cache) that's below spec! I hope I can get away with it as I was only planning on upgrading my (still much loved) GPU.

If not, I'm ignorant here - are pretty much all i5s good in the same slot? All the same LGA motherboard format yes? No, maybe? Just in case.

Shadowstalker16: 3.The catastrophic AC:U seemed to use NGW tesselation, and none other used it. Leads me to believe it has something to do with the performance issues, since neither FC4 or TC ran so poorly. TW3 doesn't use NGW tesellation; sigh.
AC:U didn't include Nvidia GeometryWorks Tessellation at launch - it was supposed to be added in a patch at some point (not sure if that has happened yet).
The game itself has performance issues on several platforms, I don't think it can really be blamed on the Nvidia effects.

I think you'll be fine - if the game runs okay on a Phenom II x4 940, it will probably run reasonably well on something like a Core 2 Quad (e.g. Q9400), let alone a Core i5.

Good to hear! Wonder if I'll persuade myself to try a small OC "just in case..."
- 980s are immortals, they can not be defeated, not in battle.

-Immortals? Lets put their name to the test.

PD: Good thing I upgraded my pc for this game.

I have a feeling to get a full 60 fps with AA and all the extra bells and whistles on you might need a 780 tops but for 30 to 50 fps at 1080p might be that 770 with 2gb or ram.. maybe. Remember a lot of devs who put out recommended specs are always not for full extreme settings :( look at witcher 2 and crysis and other top games.

I really appreciate what you guys are trying to achieve, but I thought I would leave this little bit of customer (potential) feedback. I like a lot of others here I will have to pass for now.

1 - Never finished W2 or can remember much from W1. So they will need replaying and the availability of time is not what is once was.

2 - My AMD CPU kicks ass, but the graphics card is a little less grand, and I cannot be bothered to buy a new one for just one game, or risk the fact it SHOULD run to pay out nearly full price.

Maybe in a year or so when more games are equally demanding or the game is nearer the £5 marker I will try, but until then I still have two other great Witcher games to actually finish.

I can completely understand the first point, that you want to be up on the story and your free time isn't what it once was, and I can completely understand your second point, as I'm in a similar-in-kind position where my computer just doesn't need to be upgraded yet.

However, it's grossly inappropriate to say that you'll get the game "[m]aybe in a year...[when] the game is nearer the [five pound] marker".

To say that you will only play a game when it is at ostensibly fire-sale pricing is disrespectful to a company as customer-focused as CDPR, a company that clearly loves video games. CDPR is not Valve and it is not Bethesda/Zeni-Max, viz. CDPR is not a company built on hype and making the same glaring mistakes over and over again to the point that they are actively selling inferior titles year after year.

I understand that what I've quoted isn't the whole of the point you were making there but it's relevant to point out. CDPR deserves to be paid for what it does because, unlike so many other companies, they care about video games and the people that play them and this shows in both the things they do fantastically and the mistakes they make. Please re-think that particular bit.
What this thread (and many others on other websites) show is that if studios bothered testing their games at different settings on several systems instead of trying to impress with bullshit reqs, a lot less people would shy away from their games. It's funny how in the 90s, the situation was reversed.

You could play Witcher 2 with a modest GPU. It was possible. I've no problem with them pushing standards. That means upgrading. Did gamers think we could use the same hardware for 10 years?
Well, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo, so I can´t play this game!
40 GB HD is also a little bit insane!
I don't care if my old i7 920 with GTX 970 will not run this game maxed. I need to buy a new PC this year.

TheBitterness: CDPR deserves to be paid for what it does...
But he'll pay, 5 pounds, or whatever the price will be (probably a bit higher) after one year from the game's launch.

Ciris: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches on May 19th, 2015. If you are looking to play the game on PC, here are the minimum and recommended system requirements. Check if your system will run it smoothly or if you need a not-so-last-minute-yet overhaul ;)

Minimum System Requirements:
Intel CPU Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660
AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870
RAM 6GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB

Recommended System Requirements:
Intel CPU Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz
AMD CPU AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 770
AMD GPU Radeon R9 290
RAM 8GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB

You can pre-order the game at GOG - we're adding in a bunch of exclusive goodies with it as well!
I think it's really disappointing and sad that it needs much better AMD hardware than nVidia ... currently, I'm glad I didn't preorder, but the benchmarks will decide if I'm buying after release or not ...
