mqstout: * That the amount of DRM that should be on GOG is zero.
* That the game's gamecard is lying by saying "DRM-FREE". (Which is itself probably in violation of some EU rule.)
* That people previously paid for a product that was and should be DRM free, but now is not. I haven't even played the game, but I did purchase it for encouragement DRM-free AAA game gaming.
* That a bunch of people are even failing to recognize that it is even DRM. (And many of these same people continue to try to derail discussions, be aggressive, and/or gaslight the community, about the topic.)

Syphon72: Unless I heard wrong, no one paid for this DLC. It's free. You are losing nothing in return since the DLC doesn't cost anything.
Please read the text you quoted. I exchanged money for the concept of a DRM-free product.

I have lost, "I have not purchased DRMed titles that have not been refunded or are in the progress of being corrected."

I have lost, "GOG is a DRM-free storefront".

I have lost, "I can safely buy things from GOG and know they're safe and trustworthy."

I have lost, "I supported GOG, CDPR, and The Witcher 3 to strengthen the appeal of DRM-free AAA gaming."

I have lost, "The Witcher 3 is a great exemplar of how things can and should be done right and for other developers to strive to achieve."

I have lost, "If I were to want to play The Witcher 3 in its latest incarnation (and my purchase included updates and promised to be DRM-free [and still does erroneously claim to be]), I would be able to and have the same experience as others."

And more. Please stop pretending not to get it. No one is that daft.

Time4Tea: Wow. You're going to blame gamers for not downloading/backing up the game sooner, when GOG has made a conscious choice to add DRM to their flagship game, despite styling themselves as a 'DRM-free store'? What about GOG's supposed 'DRM-free principles'? What about those who haven't purchased it yet, but might do so in the future?
avatar
Gersen: The purpose of DRM-free is to give you the possibility of making working backups of your games. Nothing more nothing less. That's the main interest and difference of DRM-free compared to DRM using games where you are at the mercy of the store/publisher revoking your license at any time.

avatar
Time4Tea: How can I have confidence that a similar thing won't happen with those? Why should I trust GOG with anything?
avatar
Gersen: That's the whole point of DRM-free : You don't.

Because no matter what happen in the future, if Gog dies or decide to put always online DRM on all their games, your backup will be safe, they cannot remotely disable them, they cannot alter them, they cannot do anything to them. As long as you keep them safe they are yours.
Breaking news: being able to protect yourself from someone doing something wrong or stupid doesn't make it ok for them to do something wrong or stupid. More at eleven!

Also, do I really need to point out the utter loonacy of trying to use the advantages of DRM-free to defend introduction of DRM? Because seriously, that's the kinda shit that would make the Cheshire Cat's head explode.

Martek: Thank you!

Then I do not understand that complaint up-thread (the one I quoted) - since, from your report, both versions are available (one with, and one without - that "DRM"). That would seem to moot the issue satisfactorily.
avatar
1Byte2Bits: While I understand that they have made the classic GOTY version of this game, which is 100% DRM free, available through offline installers listed under Extras for this game's library entry, my problem is the fact that the game entry itself in my library was replaced with a DRM-infested "Complete" edition, which I cannot ask to be removed/refunded/etc without losing access to the classic GOTY edition installers, which I originally bought.
Okay.

Now that I understand your position more clearly, it seems a legitimate gripe to me.

I don't defend anything, just point out that DRM-free is meaningless if you don't backup your games.

Ah. Ok, my mistake. I was assuming that what you were saying somehow related to the subject of the thread.

foad01: I have said two times that I don't want to continue the "conversation" with you.
My dear man. In post #108 you said "I don't understand (why people are complaining)". In post #109 I answered. I'll answer again - People are concerned about various overlapping but related things rather than a "single issue", eg, online bonus content is incompatible with game preservation, the already observable "slippery slope" of the ongoing degradation of offline installers not working without Galaxy then left abandoned, eg, Saints Row 3, and even the current freebie giveaway comes broken out of the box as a result of forcing a fake 'requirement' for Galaxy / its API where it really isn't needed is getting worse rather than better. And the "what GOG games have problems THIS week" seems to be happening more often. The user 1Byte2Bits also responded in post 112 explaining his take. As did others on the other thread. And you have (and still are) ignoring the whole lot (whereas someone genuinely interested in an answer to a question you asked would have replied to at least once).

No-one's "antagonizing" or "harassing" you ( this and this are antagonism though), they're asking you to drop the fake victim act every time the same 'question' you've 'asked' 50x times over gets answered but you don't want to address it so instead you ignore, smear and belittle their valid concerns over the "2nd class citizen" treatment as "all 'those people' must REALLY REALLY wanted those pieces of 6x DLC, Lolz" style posts, and then run away. That isn't the bigger issue most are concerned with, not is it a "having a conversation" with anyone. It's hit & run trolling. Only you can change that behaviour. Also, this is a public forum, not PM. As long as I'm not hurling personal insults at you (which I haven't) and am answering questions (which you asked), you really have zero right to tell other to "shut up and go away" for not joining your "pile-ons".

Don't forget to maniacally watch behind your back after visiting the shrink.

Longcat: Funny, it's so long ago the boycott thread was locked now, i can't really recall.
Did you participate in that thread?
As well as the one concerning moderation.

Thanks for not understanding what I said, then acting like I don't get it. You have been rude and condescending to everyone that disagrees with you. No point in talking about this anymore with you.

-Introduction of Galaxy Client.
-Termination of GOG Downloader.
-Cyberpunk 2077 release (bugfest).
-Hitman release (DRM).
-Degradation of sales pages.
-Witcher 3 "next gen" update (needing a performance patch), offering exclusive content to "optional"-client users.

GOG.com has laid the groundwork to implement DRM, has taken action upon implementing it and CDPR has jumped the gun, dissapointing fans, again.
Valve are eons ahead on offering quality services through their client, so why prefer GOG.com's client other than offering DRM-free software.
The writting is on the wall people. It is sad it has come to this.

You would think with all the other clients going back to steam recently. GOG would see this as warming to focus more on DRM-free issues. You know like maybe improving the offline installers.

vv221: The good old anti-DRM GOG died the day they announced Galaxy for the first time. Now they have no more value than other stores like Humble Bundle with their mix of DRM-free and DRM-ridden games.
avatar
StingingVelvet: Galaxy is a blessing for numerous reasons and does not inherently add DRM, but this is a tired circle of futility. You guys are never constructive, you never speak with nuance, it's 24/7 pointless anger and grievance that poisons the soul. I have to stop letting myself engage with it.
Just note that only the malcontent will permanently complain about everything, even when things go their way; they still want to bitch without any constructive contributions save for knee-jerk reactionary extreme black-and-white solutions, and when one of them engages you with their toxicity, just smile, let them spew, and move on, as you will only waste your time with them, as they're not looking for a solution, just conflict as that is what they strive for!

Toxic competition, if you will… ;)

Only the malcontented public is looking for a response, (Think, of the typical jerry springer audience member!) while those that don't, know that they're just angst-ridden adults that will never leave their adolescence behind in favour of the wicked joy they feel in their permanent quest with one-upping each other, so they already know it's a waste to engage them, so they simply don't!

The solitary time when these people are not looking for conflict is when they're busy collectively bitching or ganging up against anyone, regardless of whether it's one of their own or not… All one really needs to do to set these people off is simply disagree with them about anything!

TL;DR: The malcontent revel in shared misery, just pass them by and never engage with them as they're only looking for strife, period!

NOTE: This is a comment on why you should never engage with certain behaviours, rather than the subject of TW3's DRM, by the way…

EDIT: Derailing the thread a bit to note that DooM 1-2 has an enhanced version! :D

They can pretend only for so long that they are not the basis upon which their business was established, lest their trespass becomes obvious even to the blind.

Even themselves...
“If there is a backbone of your business and you change it, you are destroying your business. It will come in time, maybe today you will make a fast dollar, but afterwards you will deeply regret it. That’s how we see that.”
And “The moment we will betray our values, the whole GOG will explode and that’s the end of it.”
Those two entire segments I mean, just quoted those takeaways.
