Read what those stupid updates do. Why do you bother with 3rd party software for this kind of jobs? If you read the updates, you'll notice that there are more updates that should not be installed. Like, for example, Surface updates. Yes, if you read the description of some updates, you'll notice that they affect only Surface devices.

Disable Windows Update and download the patches you need manually.

Reminds me of Google's Youtube update to Google+, how they would nag you almost daily to attach your G+ account or get one to use Youtube... After a while it just changed to mandatory, and they removed a lot of good features shortly after from the regular Youtube services...

Soon i have no doubt EVERY update will include telemetry, trojans and other unwanted malware just so you can't get around it...

Hmm, I must be illiterate when it comes to Windows (7) updates. Whenever I read the descriptions, most of the time they say generic things that don't really say anything, like

"This update fixes known issues in Windows 7. To get more details, please refer to MS Knowledge Base article blaa blaa blaa blaa (link provided)."

And when I follow that link, I usually seem to end up in some online library, not the actual description of that very update. Apparently I am supposed to browse for that specific update there, to get a more detailed description?

If so, I'd rather not do that for dozen or so updates at a time. Too time-consuming.

I disabled auto update several months ago due to Win7 update ( kb3086255 ) forces koei cd games not to load, so I completely miss MS's forceful win10 updates. Had no problems ever since.

What I do:
-set windows update to let me know when there's some shit available, but not automatically download and/or install them
-search on duckduckgo for the kb number, see what it does.
-install them if harmless; if not then right click and select hide.
This way I haven't had any problems with w10update, telemetry etc

Why when I read "Windows 10", its always about the GWX? Every new iteration of GWX spawns a bajillion threads and articles talking about the same thing. Its to the point that half of the news I get regarding Windows 10 always NOT mention anything about Windows 10 itself but GWX. Is there even any point in making tons of articles on the same issue? Everyone heard your messages, no need to keep them coming.

That said, if you want to stick to your dear Windows 7, turn off automatic updating. The solution is that simple, and you won't be missing any big updates unless they're the usual security updates.

^this 100 agree.

I used to use youtube daily, ever since Google+ (Google minus the stuff you want ;p ) I`ve barely touched youtube at all.
Same re:windoze10. If I wanted spyware, I`d head to dodgy sites.

I`m content with windoze7 & all of my games/gfx software working :D

The resistance of change is not my problem, I don't care if they upgrade to Windows 10 or even use MS-DOS today, or switch to a Linux only/Mac setup. Its just that the amount of threads and articles dedicated to GWX is just too much.

On my Windows 7/8 machines, when I click on the More info link in the description panel it opens a web page with the description of the update.

Yup .. I thought I had it all cleared out / off of my Windows 7 64bit machine, but it is back. When I startup I get window suggesting I upgrade to Windows 10. GWX.exe has returned. I had removed this update and all the files once, now I have to go and do it again. Is there anyway to stop MS-updates from installing this, like blacklisting the win 10 updates, or anything like that? I'm really getting really tired of being nagged by Microsoft and it's Windows 10 garbage. I have no intentions of moving to any MS OS above Windows 7. I use Windows XP, Windows 7 64 and Various flavors of Linux.
Did you already activate your Win 7 key? If so, just do a COMPLETE format and install Win 10 only, this will solve the problem for sure.

Baby duck syndrome is everywhere. Also COBOL isn't the same. There are just too many old financial programs and inhouse-made things that aren't that cheap to replace, also downtime and shi* ain't good for business. Can't compare enterprise/business stuff with retail/consumer shit

It's like how all the news from Syria is about the fighting there. If you're interested, you're going to want the latest news on who's applying which tactics on which front. If you're not, it's just going to strike you as 'Breaking news: Syria still not peaceful' every day. Or like sports news: some people care who scored what against whom and how, some don't. Since this is a computer gaming site, naturally there are people on the forum who take a close interest in OS upgrade controversies.
