Just noticed that the file bears the same date as that when the whole game had been repackaged (see here). Apparently GOG changed the file back then, but forgot to update the link, so for the last two months it was pointing to the old file.

Ah okay. That makes sense. Atleast they fixed it now.

But the Toren thing is odd - with the german everywhere...how did that happen....

Perhaps a hint that the only Oddworld game missing from GOG, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, is coming (or not).
