IAmSinistar: It pretty much ceased being truly optional once GOG rebuilt their whole user experience around it. Possibly it will be optional in some fashion forever, but not using it is likely to only make things more difficult as time goes on.
I really wish GOG would bring back the PM system. It worked so much better...

MarkoH01: That is what I was afraid of :(
Aye. And there is some indication that the Galaxy in-client downloads are a completely separate file repository from the old GOG installers. So there is concern that the old ones will be phased out as well eventually, since it doesn't make good business sense to maintain two distinct copies of everything.

Basically, the day that Downloader stops working and there is no replacement for getting decent standalone installers, is the day I close my GOG account.

I really wished they would import all my old PMs like they PROMISED (as well as the proper sorting). I want to give them the benifit of the doubt and say that they probably have much to do at the moment ... but not forever. Broken promises would be an ABSOLUTE no-go since I hate lying with a passion!

I think you wouldn't be the only one.

It's better to have two separate places for file storage so it's easier to look for problems related to one side or the other.

We're not eliminating the offline installers.

Sorry for bolding this but people keep sort of driving themselves into paranoia regarding Galaxy's being optional and whether the offline installers would always be available for download and back-up, based on my own observations alone, and I wanted to stress that this is not the case.

Smannesman: I like how the new notification system is even worse than the previous one (which didn't show any updates).
I've had multiple updates where I've had notifications, but nothing in the 'Updated' section of my library.
And now I have multiple updates, but there's only one according to the 'Updated' section.. until I open it and hey there wasn't just one update!
It's all the excitement of opening a present!
^^^^^^ this

I can't find the updated games. -_-

True, but by then no one will notice a few old geezers slinking away, not among the hordes of "add me" youngsters.

And sorry in kind for the cynicism on my part. There have been a number of things were "it's true until it's not", which has diminished my trust here. But I do believe your intention is honourable in this case. And for my part, I won't leave until something causes me too. Idle speculation alone isn't sufficient cause.

Which in my opinion just shows that with all the recent changes and the often bad communication going with them people started loosing their trust in gog.

Yeah, sad but true....there are enough potential gog customers without critial thinking etc...

We could overpromise and not deliver a damn thing or we could work based on what various site metrics our webdevelopers have access to and deliver an experience that should be good for everyone and develop the user experience further based upon feedback overall.

I do respect your opinion on this but I wanted to get mine aired out as well :)

I completely understand, and it's not my intention to start fires for you to put out. It's more just fretting out loud. :)

It's cool :) I am a wee bit snappy cause I am hungry as all hell and I really want to go scarf on some kebabs but I wanted to get a myriad of "honeydews" out to everyone so that I can focus on other things :)
