Yes, that. Don't look for any further development on Downloader, and it wouldn't be surprising if it just died a silent death somewhere down the line.

I think it is already on its way to a silent death since for example they are not any more providing the option to download extras seperately with the downloader, only the complete bundle.

Good point. That's already one feature lost. ElTerprise: Yeah. A good idea would be to make the downloader open-source but i think that's unlikely...
I think at this point it would be better for them to open-source Galaxy. Then folks could write a lightweight download client that supports the new framework. Incidentally, Risk of Rain and Quest for Infamy just got minor updates.

Yeah and the Quest for Infamy notification decided to stay.... I think at this point it would be better for them to open-source Galaxy. Then folks could write a lightweight download client that supports the new framework.

Open-sourcing Galaxy would be great...

Hmmm ... the optional client is becoming more and more not so optional - or is it just me thinking completely in the wrong direction?

I like how the new notification system is even worse than the previous one (which didn't show any updates).
I've had multiple updates where I've had notifications, but nothing in the 'Updated' section of my library.
And now I have multiple updates, but there's only one according to the 'Updated' section.. until I open it and hey there wasn't just one update!
It's all the excitement of opening a present!

It pretty much ceased being truly optional once GOG rebuilt their whole user experience around it. Possibly it will be optional in some fashion forever, but not using it is likely to only make things more difficult as time goes on.
