Regarding the Dungeon Keeper 2 Nvidia problematic: Wouldn't it be possible to retest the game with the newest Nvidia driver and thet if the newest driver in fact does work add in the gamecard that this driver would be an alternative? This would prevent potential buyers from not buying the game because it only runs with a driver which does not support their card.

Wasn't there a lot of games early on that had software based 3D graphics and modeling and didn't use hardware acceleration? Dungeon keeper 1&2 both seem like they would have fit in that niche, much like doom and quake... Yeah later 3D acceleration and drivers became more important, but those were much later... weren't they?

I don't remember if 3D acceleration was an option when the game was released or if it was patched in at a later date but I do remember that DK2 supported both. The GOG version only has 3D accelerated graphics, I believe.

IAmSinistar: Yes, that's the way it used to be. I don't know why they removed this functionality, unless the change to the Galaxy framework doesn't (yet) support individual item flagging.
I don't think they removed it so much as it broke. That stopped working long before they even rolled out the site update, at least for me.

Hmmm... i would think having both versions available would be the better choice. Besides 3D of older games aren't that processor hungry so it wouldn't be a huge burden if they had to rely on the software-only method...

But I've been agitating for GOG to bring it back. The current state is much less useful for folks with large collections.
from my understanding; after having hammered multiple times the support about glitches , bugs , missing features gog is preparing an overhaul about the users avcount, so it's quite possible those mlssing flags will be back ;) (well i hope).

That is sad :( Guess I'll never get to try it... I hate it when stuff stops working cause you opt to update.

*nod* That sort of thing is one of the reasons I love ScummVM and DOSBox. Unlike with Wine or native Linux games, they're a platform abstraction, open-source, and have a great track record for avoiding regressions, so future compatibility is pretty much guaranteed.

The PlayOnLinux Wine frontend does have a setup script for Evil Genius for Windows but I don't have any macs so, unfortunately, I can't give you a definitive answer on how well that turns out when you run that script via PlayOnMac.

I'd try Linux but I'm fond of Guis and not having to code my own OS ;) Sometimes I think Linux has it better then Mac when it comes to gaming lately.

PlayOnLinux and PlayOnMac are actually two sides of the same program. I was mainly just saying that, while I do have Evil Genius and PlayOnLinux does have a setup script for it, I can't verify that it's free of Mac-specific bugs.

As for Linux, it definitely has flaws (that scary list is maintained by a Linux fan to goad developers into fixing things) but I get the impression you're thinking of the Linux of several years ago.

These days, the main reason you'll use the terminal in a mainstream distro like Ubuntu is because it's easier for online instructions to say "copy and paste this into the terminal" than to talk someone through the equivalent GUI.

Plus, there are a lot of outdated instructions still floating around which give a skewed impression of things since Google can point you at them, unlike with books like the copy of PC Magazine's DOS Power Tools, Second Edition (Revised for DOS 5.0!) that I bought used to refresh my memory before putting together a nostalgia PC. (My memory gets hazy back before DOS 6)

Thanks for the info. You're right I haven't looked into Linux recently. Can you "Dual boot" Linux and Mac?
