This, to me, is a huge problem.

As others have anologized, it would be as if a physical goods retailer broke into your house and took back part of what they sold to you after the fact.

I paid a price for a certain product - you can't come back and permanently steal back part of it for any reason. I have a hard time believing this is legal in Poland, Cyprus, or the USA... but what recourse do we have? Am I really going to hire a lawyer and sue somebody in one or more foreign countries over this? Are you?

It's the long-term risk of going to a digital economy, where value exists intangibly. Very troubling.

While I am as troubled by this as you are, allow me to be a devil's advocate for a moment.

The way I tend to view it is that what GOG sold me is the digital copy that I keep on my external HD at home. GOG did not delete the soundtrack from there. For me, the digital copy on GOG's servers is just a nice-to-have backup for a rainy day. I am fully aware of the possibility of GOG going out of business one day, at which point all their servers will be gone. I don't count on having access to GOG forever.

When you buy a physical object, you don't ask the seller to keep it on his premises for you. You take it home and safeguard it. For me, it's the same with digital stuff.

mrkgnao: My guess is a lot simpler:
- They probably don't have a bit in the user account database that marks whether the game was bought before or after the bonus removal.

If I'm right, they could work around that:
1) On bonus removal, make the removed bonus a standalone "dummy" DLC
2) On bonus removal, give that "dummy" DLC to all the people who own the game
3) Do not offer the "dummy" DLC for sale, so all new game buyers do not get the bonus.

My guess is similar.
I don't think GOG's database allows the fine handling of bonus. I don't imagine each bonus having a "removal-date" and there is no ability of showing different sets of bonus to different users.

In fact, the terms of service of the Humble Store say this. They make no commitment to keep your DRM-Free games available after a certain period after a purchase (30 days, I think).

And don't forget to also download all the posters, artworks, etc. because at some point or another these too had been removed from some games. The one thing I believe was never removed is avatars, but I wouldn't swear on that.

Anybody willing to create and maintain a thread (and perhaps a GOGmix) that lists removed bonuses? I could contribute about 4-5 such items.

For a physical retailer, you don't expect them to keep your item on the shelf for you, but that's not part of the basic covenant. The fundamental agreement with a digital retailer like GoG does include "storage", as it's part of how the product being sold works. When I buy a game on GoG, I can install it onto multiple machines, and remote (vendor) storage is required for that.

It would be as if you purchased a physical good where the basic covenant with the retailer does include vendor storage - say you bought a yacht (because, you know, I do that all the time) and it comes with mooring rights at the dealer. Then they break into your boat and take back the "free" furniture that came with it.

Or you purchase a horse from a facility that also includes residency (in my part of the world, this is actually fairly common), and afterwards the facility shaves a mohawk onto your horse because the hair was "free" and they can take it back.

I could probably think of even sillier examples, but I think these will do! :)

Possibly. It sounded like you only have the extras saved to your external disk or do you also have them extracted somewhere? GOG has proven unreliable to use as a backup for the extras. So, I wouldn't consider them an option for them. Using that logic if you only have them saved once then they aren't backed up.

Seems the decision to buy a bluray burner and backup all the games and extras to discs, in addition to the external HD I have, was the right one.
