Really? They felt the need to make clear that the game still would be running if you would have a machine that is more powerful then it needs to be? I guess that's new?

Maybe they think we're all big fans of the FormGen release of Mystic Towers where the installer uses a signed variable for the free hard drive space and won't install in DOSBox unless you set it to fake a reduced amount of free space.

That's odd. The game was removed from the store, but it should still be available to download. BTW do we know why it was removed?

The devs closed shop, apparently.

And that begs the question of why that would result in the game being pulled from GOG but not Steam.

Good question indeed, didn't know it was still up on Steam.

Well, there *is* Ultima 2, which would usually fail to run (with a division by zero error) if your CPU is too powerful. My theory is that it involves how the game calibrates its timing, which seems to be something like the following:
* At program start, the game checks the time, busy waits for a certain number of iterations (which is always fixed), and then checks the time again.
* The game then divides some constant by the amount of time passed during the busy wait, and uses that to determine how many iterations the delay loops should run. This is used so that the game knows when the player has taken too long to input a command and therefore is forced to skip their turn (I don't think this is a good mechanic for a game that is supposed to be an RPG, but it's there in this game and Ultima 3).
* On a fast CPU, the CPU is so fast that the calibration loop takes so little time to run that the clock usually doesn't change. (There's also the possibility that a sufficiently fast CPU could recognize a loop where nothing is happening and optimize it out entirely, but I don't know if that is actually done.) As a result, the amount of time the game thinks past during the calibration loop is 0, and the game tries to divide by 0.
* At this point, the game crashes with an error message.

So, there's an example of a game that won't run if the machine is too powerful. (The GOG version runs this game under DOSBox with a low cycle count so that this bug doesn't occur; if you raise the cycles high enough, then try to start the game, you should be able to reproduce this error.)

(Note: On modern (non-embedded) OSes, using busy loops for timing and delays is not good practice; if you are writing a game or other program, use some other method instead.)
