MarkoH01: Great move. In my experience devs often "forget" about GOG but mostly they update the GOG version (as well as humble in case it's available there) shortly after people have "reminded" them that they also bought the game. In fact this way is often much faster than to wait for GOG to get the files themselves.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: The question is - why do they forget? I don't think that people purchasing their games here pay with Monopoly money.
I don't know why they forget, but you must appreciate their sense of humour, as in their reply to DyNaer, which begins with "Funny enough".

At least someone is getting a laugh out of these things. At our expense, of course.

Yeah. As far as I can remember, GOG's unique in not offering Steam keys, so you'd think they'd be more likely to remember to push updates.

NOTE! ADD +++ New "Bureau of Labor" Improvement unlocks the Planetary Spending Wheel for a specific planet. This improvement is unlocked through the "Interstellar Governance" technology.
NOTE! ADD +++ Removed Large Empire Penalty. This makes the Krynn's Patriotic ability (which overrode the penalty) obsolete and the former trait has been replaced by the new Coercion trait. Note: you'll need to start a new game to enjoy this benefit.

Most of the time though it seems to work against us, GOG's treated as an afterthought.

I suspect that's more because GOG provides its own installers and, sometimes, gets its own builds, while all of the other DRM-free vendors just host whatever zip file, tarball, or installer the developer uploads.

I'm not sure I follow - what GOG does impacts the time it takes for the update to be delivered to us, but how does it affect the time and frequency the devs/pubs submit their updates to GOG?

I mean, look at Empty Clip Studios for example, they outright admitted that they haven't submitted a single of their updates for two years to GOG, and were thinking of submitting this one once they're done with the feedback/update run on Steam.

In order to support Steam, GOG, and other DRM-free vendors, developers may have to package up three releases rather than two (since GOG wants to put together their own installer rather than just using one the devs built).

I know all too well what it feels like to have too much to do and too little time. It's entirely possible they either rationalized a more infrequent update pace for non-Steam releases or procrastinated submitting the updated versions and then, in either case, just wound up forgetting.
