DukeNukemForever: I'm only surprised to see also 11th Hour and Larry 7 in that list, because both uses Dosbox
Is that the case for the Mac version? Because the Windows version for both games doesn't use DOSBox.

I have both games, but honestly did not checked the versions so far. I know that 11th Hour can also run in ScummVM. I'm not sure about Larry 7, I believe there was also an advanced windows version. Maybe GOG is unsing that version in wineskin for the mac version. Again, did not checked both versions so far.

Edit: Ok, checked the installer packages. To my surprise 11th Hour uses Wineskin. It's maybe an option for GOG to switch to ScummVM here. Also Larry 7 uses Wineskin. So yeah, it's only Wineksin that makes trouble here.

Since GOG isn't indicating whether a game is using DOSBox, I decided to compile a list of all games that do so and I would appreciate it if you could find the time to test those games, in case the Mac version is actually using DOSBox. GOG's Windows' build of Larry 7 is definitely the Windows version, while 11th Hour is using a Windows 95 Loader or something like that.

Oh, OK then. Never mind my words above. :P

mrkgnao: Mac OS X 10.11 notice: The System Integrity Protection Feature must be disabled before playing this game

[I wonder what all these games have in common.]
avatar
DukeNukemForever: If they mean by System Integrity Protection feature the upcoming Rootless protection against malware I can give maybe an explanation. By disabling the root to access system folders malware should not access system relevant parts of the syste anymore. That also means that as user and you can't change relevant parts of the OS, except your software has is licensed by Apple for doing it. Most of the games use wineskin to work on mac, which also needs to install some older software library. I guess that's the problem here. I'm only surprised to see also 11th Hour and Larry 7 in that list, because both uses Dosbox

To disable Rootless you need to boot in system recovery mode and then change by a terminal command the setting. That's not trivial and means it's for most apple user a big problem. It's also not recommeded so far by Apple.

Edit: Wikipedia about SIP/Rootless, maybe easier to understand than my writing:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Integrity_Protection
Thank you. So it seems that what all these games have in common is that they all use Wineskin, which in turns clashes with SIP.

Well, if you can't SIP the Wine, might as well GULP it all down.

Since I only have the original CDs of these games I am wondering what they use if not DOSBox?

Never mind - I did not read till the end (some kind of Win95 loader).

Both games were also released on Windows 95 and GOG uses these versions (natively for Love For Sail and through a Windows 95 Loader or somesuch for 11th Hour).

I was not aware that there even was a windows version of 11th hour. Thank you for telling me.
Ok, I need to correct myself about ScummVM and 11th Hour. While 7th Hour is supported (Groovie Engine), the support for 11th Hour wasn't finished yet and it seems the project is frozen at the moment. So ScummVM isn't an option. I was so sure that 11th Hour would run with ScummVM.
